PLANETS OF THE GAMMA QUADRANT

This brief list of random planets near the Chamdra Nebula in the Gamma Quadrant and is only a small summary of worlds that are neutral and not affiliated with the Dominion. Most of these worlds are low-tech and politically divided, a situation that Starfleet believes has been created by the Founders: a unstable planet or alien race cannot reach out into the stars and challenge the authority of the Dominion. Since the end of the all-out Dominion war with the Alpha Quadrant powers, many Federation ships have begun exploring in and around the wormhole that exits here in the Gamma Quadrant.

The Andra System is a major colony of the alien Shreen race. It comprises a large M-Class planet and a dozen off-world moon colonies, as well as many large asteroid colonies. It has a substantial starport in orbit and a population of 600 million people, divided into two warring nation states: Alorn and Nadrak. Conflict between these nation-states is endemic and no resolution seems imminent.

Bopanna: Located at the center of the Delenky subsector, this planet is the capital of the region and very Earth-like. Most of the population (800,000 Caroon) live on the High Steppes, a large plateau-area of the planet; the rest of the population (most of it transitory, from nearby worlds) live at the orbital naval base on Bopanna's Moon, Gannep. The planet is run by 4 different family-based clans and is non-industrial, importing in all its high-end products from the nearby high-tech world Tomelty (including all its warships).

Calvador: Located in the Inomata subsector, this world is a major crossroads for interstellar traffic in the region. It is ruled by several Chitaa corporations set up by the nearby planet Trinder V, and has a population of nearly 500 million people (all Chitaa). Its Class A starport can repair and refuel most ships in the area and is known for its efficient workers and complete lack of graft by the various companies that run the several governments that control the planet.

Located in the heavily-industrialized and high-population Chaudri subsector, Calpella is also the site of ancient alien artifacts of unknown origin. Six companies are engaged in researching the technofossils located here, volunteers are paid to stay and a weekly ship from the planet Chaudri keeps them supplied. The overall Calpella population is just over 110 million people, of which a mere 9,000 are the researchers, the rest are exiles (read prisoners) from the neighboring and heavily populated Windahl Prime. Prisons ships regularly drop off new malcontents from the surrounding subsector.

Century Station: This large trading station is located in Koshort-Huq subsector and is the primary way-station for the entire region. Nearly 80 million people call Century Station home, including more than 10 million Shreen. Every year, hundreds of millions of people travel to (and through) this enormous space station, which was constructed to help grow traffic between ______ and _______ subsectors. It's also the location of the vital Century Sector Naval Base. Unfortunately, a subsector-wide regional depression is badly affecting this space station, causing a collapse in trade and travel and pushing the three local governments that run the station into near-bankruptcy. Century Station is technically owned by the Qati (a minor human sub-race) and over 20 million Othalli live on the station, but it is operated mainly by Qentessos-Corp.

A minor agricultural backwoods world, Dathnis is a colony owned by the alien Tifili'xi race. It is currently governed by several Tif agri co-ops, most of which are family-related and run. The planet is located in Delenky subsector, is non-industrial, and sends most of its products to the nearby high-population world Windahl Prime.

Desmet Prime: the senior sector military academy is located here, a planet which has large tracts of land set aside for 'war games' and military maneuvers. The children of future world leaders and military commanders are sent to Desmet to learn warfare tactics and principles under the tutelage of the Warlords, an exclusive and powerful circle of successful military analysts, admirals, and generals. Finally, the planet is ruled by a cybernetic council and is heavily populated, with nearly 80 billion inhabitants of many different races.

Downunder: Nearly 8 million humanoids call this Class-M planet home. It is a non-industrial but highly agricultural world, sending all of its products to the nearby high-population planet Tomelty. The local government is divided into family factions, with six large families running the entire show.

Iburan Prime: One of the largest and most populous worlds in Omoziik subsector, Iburan has controlled Qati politics for over a thousand years, sparing continually with Tomelty for dominance of the area. Sadly this high population high-tech city-world has fallen upon hard times in the last five years. More than 80 billion people live on this city-covered planet but all of them now struggle due to an outbreak of a hostile electronic virus that has crippled the federal government and its armed forces; several regions arose to break away to protect themselves. Currently three newly-formed nations are now fighting the virus, which now dominates just a single region (Bayron). Fabulously expensive mercenaries from several sectors are converging on Iburan to eliminate the last viral holdout, and secure new long-term contracts to prevent any further outbreaks.

The planet Irogash is an ocean-world, with no land breaking its surface. It's a prison planet, with the population divided up into a dozen warring states. Only hardened prisoners are sent to Irogash (murderers, rapists, etc) from all over the sector and the population is currently 8 million, and rising daily as spaceships bring in more undesirables. The orbital spaceport (Bawott-Tal) is run by the Biwott Corporation, a well-known Andreo-sector mercenary group.

Jerra-Jerg: Once a amazingly wealthy world, civil war broke out on this Qati planet nearly 100 years ago and hasn't ceased since. Several "royal families" are competing for dominance of this Class-M world, which is famed for its agro-products, mostly it's locally produced beers and fine wines. The starport was destroyed in the fighting but an occasional daring spacetrader will pick up cargo from the planet, which is located in Koshort-Huq subsector. The population of Jezra-Jerg is just 890,000 people, not including any automated AI robotic weapons which still rampage across the various warzones.

Kanis: This planet has nothing to endure anyone to this system, except its location, which is situated just a few light years away from the densely populated Alpha Santori system. The original colonists to Kanis were outcasts, forced out by Alpha Santori for even the smallest crimes, to help relieve severe population pressures. Since Kanis is a true ocean-world (no land or islands can be found) all the inhabitants live on wooden ships and small platforms made out of native plantlife. Nearly 20 million people call this low-tech planet home. The official government is divided into at least 30 different contentious factions.

Karwar V: When first discovered over a thousand years ago, Shreen immigration to this world was fueled by massive mineral deposits, mainly from the nearby high-population planet Tomelty. Since that time, most of the resources have been extracted and the population has mostly fled, leaving behind half a dozen warring factions on the planet's surface. An advanced space station (owned by Jera-Flexcorp) is still in orbit and services the huge amount of regional space traffic that jumps into this system. Located in the Omoziik subsector, just three million people call Karwar home.

Long Journey: This small, poor world is wracked by fluidic seas and its population has long suffered the storms that encircle the planet. Colonized over a thousand years ago by political dissidents from the Shreen Homeworld, the population has waxed and waned until just a handful of local citizens remain: a mere 3,050 Shreen. Contact and trade with off-worlders is intermittent at best, even though the planet is located in the heavily-trafficked Chaudri subsector. There is talk of turning the entire planet into a penal colony, but the three clans that have stayed on Long Journey are refusing; the Shreen government is offering a hefty fee to every Journeyan if they accept relocation. So far there have been few takers.

Covered with grey-green clouds, the Mahendo'sat colony of Mahen'Zhat dwells (for the most part) under the shelter of one huge ceramic dome. For the past 300 years, the colonists have continued the daunting project of converting Mahen'Zhats'  ammonia atmosphere to a breathable one of nitrogen and oxygen. The recent sale of atmospheric processors from the Dominion will hopefully help convert the atmosphere in a matter of years. Due to the high-tech nature of the Dominion equipment, conversion rates have been quadrupled! Over 80 million Mahen call Mahen'Zhat home and whenever anyone dies, all their organs are harvested and the usable remains of the body are broken down into their component parts and used to fertilize the agro-domes.

Mers: Located in the Delenky Subsector, one jump away from the heavily trafficked Goa System, this planet is populated by 55 million Yoruta aliens, many who are employed by the two corporations that dominate this agro-planet. A small and comparatively low-tech world, Mers sells all of its products to the neighboring Ferris System and imports technological goods and services from their as well. Two armed corporate space stations in orbit handle the needs of arriving and departing ships, the locals only have a pitiful Class C starport at their disposal on the surface of the planet.

Moxis VII: This planet has a series of domed mining camps on the main world, which is located in the Delenky subsector. Several Shreen businesses have agreed to divide up the planet to mine its mineral resources but in the last few years, organized (but low-level) violence has broken out, led by the union bosses. The local businesses are looking for a more aggressive way to suppress this outbreak before it spreads too far.

Nornn: A sleepy agroworld with a population of barely 50 million Othalli, Nornn is located just off the major spacelanes and delivers most of its good to the high-population subsector capital of Tomelty. Four separate nations rule this planet, each from a family which founded the planet thousands of years ago. The spaceport is very poor, most cargo ships land just outside the capital city on a barren field, load their goods, and leave (having little to no interaction with the locals).

Peira III: A devastating nuclear and biological conflict between the two major national powers on this planet has decimated the local population (once in the billions), destroyed the spaceport, and permanently wrecked the economy. Although it occurred more than 30 years ago, severe radiation encircles the planet and several million survivors huddle in deep underground cities, trying to survive. There is talk from the subsector capital of Bhowmik in relocating the population to a better nearby world, but the unfinished war has suspended any such efforts. The local population is of the Peira race.

Once a colony of a wealthy neighboring Chitaa planet, the Rahi System fell into chaos several years ago when a dozen mercenary companies went rogue and took over the planet after a wild night of victorious celebration. Now six different nations exist, all selling high-end mercenaries to the highest bidder to offworlders, including highly coveted drop commandos, assault marines, and special forces units. The planet is covered mostly with water, has nearly 200 million citizens, and is located in Koshort-Huq subsector.

Located in the Gamma Quadrant, the pleasure planet Rilos is friendly to Starfleet personnel. It is located near the Chamdra Vortex (a interstellar phenomenon). Rilos is populated by humans who have clearly been transported to this world by the Preservers, most likely several thousand years ago. Ethnically and politically the inhabitants are Italian, with a similar language and culture as the region of Sicily on Earth. The planet is being considered by Starfleet Command for a rest-and-relaxation world for crews operating in the Gamma Quadrant (its inhabitants are extremely gregarious). Rilos is a scientifically advanced world, united and stable.

Vyyesshiy: Once an influential world, the Shreen government was overthrown over 200 years ago and the planet fell into serious fighting, which resulting in a planetary nuclear war. The surviving five nations are trying to cope with the aftermath. The population has plunged from 5 billion to less than 100 million and the planet is considered a Red Zone for travel.

Wattenhouse: This planet is ruled by several noble Wadi families, which bicker amongst themselves in friendly ways: each tries to win the yearly solar sail event in the star system. The population is around 2 billion.

Whil: This strategically placed world was colonized by a vast generation "sailship" thousands of years ago by the M'Gewn. The great starship was drawn off course by a magnetic storm, only to crashland on a world of endless ocean and raging storms, a world where the only land was a thousand scattered rocky islands, and where the winds blow constantly. The ship was not meant to land on a planet and thousands of colonists in cold-sleep died. The sail (barely heavier than air) floated on top of the sea. The survivors dreamed of repairing the ship but the dream slowly died.

A Class M world, Wisand has more than 600 million In'taq living on the planet but it is also comparatively low tech with minimal starport facilities (starport C). It is located in the Inomata subsector and is a major crossroads for 6 other nearby subsectors. A little over 100 years ago the federal government on Wisand fell apart during a widespread scandal and the planet nonviolently broke up into five different nations, the largest being Lo'xorr. Now, as a major transshipment hub, a large space station is being built in orbit by the neighboring high-population world Trinder V.
