This alternate Earth is on the cusp of an all-out global war between several major factions, all of which are armed to the teeth and which could seriously damage the entire planet. The main combatants are the Jaziran Caliphate versus the Western nations, the Western nations and UAS versus the Sino-Soviet Alliance, and America/colonial Europe versus the Japanese Empire. American Federation: a major nation that is grimly trying to remain neutral in the terrible wars that are clearly coming. Washington DC is focused mainly on the growing Japanese threat, and also seeking to avoid conflict with the muslim nations. Luckily, the Americans have a very large navy to keep conflicts far from their shores. This includes two dozen Iowa-class battleships and three dozen large fleet carriers. However, the US Army is badly outdated and undersized. The current year is 1975.
Austro-Hungarian Empire: an aging European power that has poorly maintained and trained armies. It also has serious internal conflicts from its oppressed minority groups. The Jaziran Caliphate is prepared to attack, and Vienna is totally unready to face this very serious challenge. Luckily, Vienna is strongly allied to nearby Ukraine, Poland, Italy/Greece, Czechoslovakia, and even power-house Germany.
British Empire: a globe-spanning empire that is strong militarily, the British are about to be attacked by both the Japanese and the Jazirans. London is attempting to rapidly move troops around to maintain their lucrative empire but it is badly falling behind in these efforts. The world war that is about to overtake Earth 97 cannot be stopped by mere diplomacy, since Mecca and Tokyo have already decided to invade British and French colonial holdings (with the backing of Moscow and Beijing).
French Empire: for the past few decades Paris has had its colonial holdings slowly whittled away by the aggressive Jaziran Caliphate. The French have dithered for far too long and remain on the defensive against the heretical muslims. In addition, diplomatic efforts by the French in forming several alliances with the other global powers has failed, and leaders in Paris hold out little hope for successfully fending off the major war that is coming.
Japanese Empire: this militant empire has been successfully expanding in Asia for the last twenty years and is preparing to attack the remaining British colonial holdings, especially in the resource-rich East Indies. After that, Thailand, Australia, and British Burma are at risk. America and other European powers are desperately trying to avoid conflict in the area, to the detriment of the hapless British.
Jaziran Caliphate: this pan-Islamic nation is hostile towards all its neighbors, especially the colonial European powers in Africa. An all-out war between the Caliphate and the Europeans is now practically guaranteed since leaders in Paris, London, Rome, and Madrid have ..... MORE HERE SOON

Spanish Empire: in the capital city of Madrid, political and military leaders are desperately trying to avoid the coming global conflict, but it is unlikely they will be able to stay on the sidelines for long. Their empire is just too susceptible to invasion and subversion by outside forces, especially populist leftist ones.
Ukrainian Alliance States (UAS): bordering the aggressive Sino-Soviet Union (SSU), the various nation-states that make up the UAS cannot possibly hold off enemy forces for long, if they choose to attack. Russian armies are aggressively massing along the border but have not opened fire....yet. However, the Ukrainians are allied with the British, the French, the Austrians, and Poland, and are preparing to fight and political leaders in Warsaw are praying that their alliances with other Western powers will deter the Russians (an effort that is in vain).
