BYZANTIUM OVERSEAS COLONIES

Alexandretta: this major city (and surrounding province) has been at the center of Byzantine-Turkish conflicts for hundreds of years. Byzantium has never lost control of the city, although the Turks have tried to conquer it dozens of times in the past. It remains a crucial Mediterranean trade city for the Empire: population 5 million people.

Angola: conquered by Byzantium in 1910 from Belgium, this oil-rich region is mined heavily by Byzantium for its resources, including rare earths, oil, diamonds, and natural gas. Population is 15 million people.

Arabistan: located in southern Persia, this region was wrested away from Tehran more than 100 years ago. It is surrounded by nearly impassible mountains (the Zargos Range) and is saturated with highly valuable oil deposits. The Byzantine Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines have significant bases in this region. Arabistan is the site of a Big Dig Drain, with the goal of moving 25 billion barrels of oil to the Ukraine over the next ten years. The population of the region is 6 million people.

Bahamas: this hurricane-swept series of small islands was purchased from Great Britain in the late 1800s. Currently it is the only site of lucrative graphene mining within the Byzantine Empire. The Bahamas remains a highly trafficked tourist location.

Bahrain: this island nation in sits in the middle of the Persian Gulf and is a vital air and sea base for the Byzantine Empire. It has large natural gas and oil reserves, all owned directly by Byzantium City. Over the years, the original inhabitants have been moved to the Arabian mainland; only Byzantium Europeans remain on the island. Population is 300,000.

Bechuanaland: this area became the primary recolonization zone for the Lebanon-based Druze population, after the Shaking Plague killed off more than 98% of the local population. This region (which is Earth Primes' Botswana nation) is currently thriving under the new immigrants, especially in the areas of mining, cattle production, and tourism. In the last 20 years, more than 600,000 Druze (nearly the entire population in Lebanon) has moved to Bechuanaland. Byzantium totally controls the affairs and economy of this region.

Bioko Island: a small island off the West African coast, it has significant untapped oil and gas reserves and remains a trade crossroads for Byzantium shipping. The local population is around 80,000, almost entirely European immigrants (mostly Italian and Greek).

Borneo: Big Dig Drain

Cape Verde Islands:

Caribbean Islands: sugar, cotton, nutmeg, fishing, salt, and tourism

Crete:

Cyprus:

Egypt: massive grain production

Greater Gabon and Cabinda Province: Big Dig Drain

Hong Kong: from Britain

Israel/Lebanon:

Jamaica: bauxite and alumina, tourism

Katanga: Extensive mineral deposits found in Katanga include copper, cobalt, zinc, cassiterite (the chief source of metallic tin), manganese, coal, silver, cadmium, germanium (a element used as a semiconductor), gold, palladium (a metallic element used as a catalyst and in alloys), uranium, and platinum.

Kenya:

Kuwait: Big Dig Drain

Malaya: rubber trees and palm oil, huge tin deposits, Big Dig Drain

Malta:

Mozambique:

Nigeria: oil, rubber and palm oil, tourism, natural gas, bauxite, lead, and zinc, Big Dig Drain

North Rhodesia: major copper and tobacco

Oman: oil, Big Dig Drain

Puerto Rico: massive copper deposits

Qatar: Due to the enormous natural gas production of the offshore Pars Field, nearly the entire Byzantine Empire and its colonies utilize liquid natural gas (LNG) shipping to produce electricity via gas power plants. The singular exception is at Bombay, which has four large nuclear reactors to power the huge city of 30 million people. Qatar has more than 70% of Earth 7's total natural gas reserves. It is also the site of a Big Dig Drain project, with the goal of moving 20 billion barrels of oil to the Oil Reserve around Kiev. Also, a LNG fleet based out of Qatar is the largest in the world, with over 500 vessels plowing the oceans and seas of Earth 7.

Sao Tome and Principe: oil

Shanghai Enclave:

Sicily: massive grain production

Singapore: major trade nexus, huge naval base

South Africa:

South China Enclave (Guangdong area):

South Korea:

South Rhodesia: this region was conquered by the Byzantine Empire but in 1744 AD the area suffered a major calamity with the outbreak of the Shaking Plague, which killed over 90% of the local population. It then became the primary recolonization zone for the Maronite Christians of central Lebanon. South Rhodesia has since become a major food production area with a strong manufacturing sector, iron and steel industries, and modern mining ventures. Nearly 99% of Maronites have immigrated to South Rhodesia, which continues to be dominated by the  Byzantine Empire.

Suez Canal Zone:

Sumatra: rubber trees and large oil deposits, Big Dig Drain

Taiwan: from Britain

Tanzania:

Trinidad and Tobago: oil

Trucial States (Middle East): Byzantium gained the Trucial States during the 55-Minute War (in 1925), in which Byzantine warships bombarded the British HQ at Qatar into submission in under an hour. Since then, this small area has massively increased its oil production and refining, all under the watchful eyes of Byzantium.  It is also the site of a Big Dig Drain project, with the goal of moving 15 billion barrels of oil to the Oil Reserve around Kiev.

Wakanda: massive mineral wealth, huge coffee and cocoa production
