EARTH 7 HISTORY


In this timeline the Byzantine Empire never fell to various foreign invaders and this has significantly altered the history of Earth 7. The Seljuk Turks initially stayed in Central Asia as favorable climate changes allowed them to remain in their home region. This also cut off further mass migrations from Asia by other militant tribes. Without the pressure of the hordes of invading Turks, the Byzantines were able to manage the various invasions by neighboring groups and tribes much more easily. By establishing a permanent colonization zone in the Ukraine, vast amounts of wheat and other agricultural products helped the Byzantine Empire remain strong and healthy. Without the destruction of Byzantium by invading Arab and Turkish hordes, the Renaissance on Earth 7 began two hundred years earlier and had a deep and lasting influence on the rest of Europe. Eventually, with the expansion of Empires' control over more than a dozen lucrative overseas colonies, Byzantium has grown into a global superpower, especially with its dominance of the spice trade, rare earth mining, and extensive natural gas and oil production and refining. Globally, the major competitor against Byzantine interests is Russia, however several other major and minor powers are arrayed against them as well, including Turkey. Chinese nationalists, the Japanese Empire, Greater Germany, the Kazakh Union, and the French Empire. 1640: Spice Islands conquered by Byzantium Navy

1655: Singapore established by Byzantium Empire. Singapore becomes Byzantium Empires' major naval node in the Pacific region

1744: The Shaking Plague decimates much of Africa

1750s: Byzantium conquers much of southern Africa

1855: Guangdong Province in China comes under Byzantium sway

1887: Nigeria Revolts put down, permanent Byzantium troop presence in the country

1889: Boer War ends in Byzantium victory (blacks expelled from the newly formed South Africa and Indian temporary workers take their place)

1890: First German War Begins (continent-wide war); France sells some colonies in Africa to Byzantium to pay off their war-debt

1892: First Byzantium/Russia War. 

1894: Battle of the Tsushima Straits: Japan defeated in combat. Colonies in South Korea and Shanghai were given to Byzantium

1897: Byzantium wrests Egypt away from Great Britain in the 12 Day War

1909: First Byzantium zeppelins fielded

1909: Concessions from the Pillory War gives Hong Kong and Taiwan to Byzantium 

1910: Second German War Begins (intercontinental war); Angola to Byzantium (from Belgium), Byzantium purchases Tanzania from Germany

1919: First Byzantium submersibles created

1925: The 55-Minute War (Qatar) occurs: Byzantium wins concessions in the Persian Gulf (Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Arabistan, and the Trucial States)

1940: Third German War Begins (global war), Ballistic missiles invented by Von Braun in Greater Germany, Byzantium City's' population reaches 10 million

1944: Third German War Ends: the Axis (Greater Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Russia) are finally defeated by the Allies (France, Spain, Britain, Poland/Lithuania, America, and Byzantium)

1950: Second Byzantium/Russia War. Construction begins on the "Big Dig Project" outside of Kiev.

1960: Byzantium invents the Atom Bomb; bubble steel invented by Byzantium Empire. The Big Dig Project is finished and starts receiving oil shipments.

1962: Russia steals Atom Bomb technology from Byzantium, builds their first bomb

1963: Britain invents the Atom Bomb, America invents the Atom Bomb

1965: France invents the Atom Bomb, Spain and France ally

1968: Spain invents the Atom Bomb. Triple Alliance formed (Britain and Byzantium with Poland/Lithuania)

1969: Byzantium invades Kenya to restore oligarchy after a coup

1970: Byzantium City's' population reaches 25 million

1973: Third Byzantium/Russia War

1975: Japan tries to wrest Asian colonies from Byzantium but fails. Triple Alliance reaffirmed. Global Space Race begins in earnest.

1980: Japan/Byzantine War

1982: The genocidal Katanga War breaks out in Zaire and spreads to neighboring countries and colonies. Byzantium becomes involved and eventually overcomes the militant rebels, annexing a large portion of southern Zaire into the Empire


FUTURE EVENTS
1983: To maintain global naval superiority, the Byzantine Navy lays down six nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and 6 Iowa-class battleships (plans sold to them by the Company). Additional aircraft plans are sold to Byzantium (the F-14 Tomcat, E-2 Hawkeye, and A-6 Intruder).

1984: The Byzantine Empire successfully lands a man first on the Moon using Saturn V rocket technology (sold to them by the Company).

1984: Byzantiums' new naval construction sparks a global naval arms race among the major powers, raising ire against the Empire. Japan leads the way in new ship production.

1985: Initial nuclear disarmament discussions between Russia and Byzantium begin. The first meeting at the Nuclear De-escalation Treaty (NDT) talks in Moscow break down amid recriminations. The talks were merely a ruse; the Russian Imperium begins a all-out invasion of the neighboring Kazakh Union. To maintain the status quo, the Byzantines become co-belligerents with the Kazakh Union against the Russians; the war spreads.
