STAR TREK MAXXIVERSE GLOSSARY

NOTE: This is an ongoing project and I will be adding more content weekly. When I am done I will remove this text. In addition, I am jumping around on this project, putting in entries when they inspire me. This glossary is associated with my Resolute War and the Second Federation universes, not the Second Bajoran Republic universe.

Ablative Armor: First developed by the United Federation of Planets (UFP) in 2368, this armor was field-tested on several vessels and was used heavily in the Resolute War on many Allied starships. Later, it was was given to the Klingons as part of a technology exchange while both polity's were attacking the Romulans, and it proved very effective when used on the battlefield. Eventually, the combat escort-ship USS Defiant (NCC-74205) at the strategic port Deep Space 9 was upgraded with the armor as well where it was also confirmed to be very potent during the Dominion War. The armor was later superseded by the USS Voyagers' "transporter armor" and later by the "compressed armor" of the Second Federation. When in use, ablative armor was extremely effective against enemy energy weapons fire.

Adriatic Federation: Thrown back in time almost 1000 years, a small United Federation of Planets colony fleet emerged near the giant star Canopus. The survivors colonized a new world (Adriatic Prime) as well as a half dozen neighboring planets, growing in population to nearly 3 billion people before eventually contacting the modern version of the UFP in 2370 AD. The Adriatic Federation later joined the United Federation of Planets and is now a support center for colonization of the nearby Jenolan Dyson Sphere.

Adriatic Prime (planet): Capital of the Adriatic Federation, a lost colony world of the United Federation of Planets. The majority of the population is human, with a population of almost 2 billion people. It is located in the Federation Annex Zone (UFP territory).

Adriatic Star System: Located less then 100 light years from the Jenolan Dyson Sphere, this planet helped the Alliance win the war against the Romulans and now plays an important role in colonizing the region. The system has 10 planets, of which Adriatic Prime is the third in orbit.

Agrama Sector (Romulan): A well-established sector within the Romulan Empire, it fell to Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now primarily occupied by Klingon forces and their Romulan slaves.

Akwaterra (2 UFP): An habitable world located in the Second Federation region of space, this planet was the capital of the 2Fed until the area was re-contacted by the UFP and rejoined to the core worlds of the Federation more than ten years after its initial discovery and colonization. Its inhabitants are mostly human and it now has a population of over 200 million people (in 2400 AD). It is located 50 light years from the giant star Deneb, and over 3,000 light years from Earth and Sector 001.

Aldebaran: Aldebaran III is home to 1 million alien natives and 2 billion Federation citizens. Aldebaran is also the location of the semi-secret Aldebaran Yards, one of the Federation's most advanced shipyards. The planets' government is a federal republic with excellent ship facilities (Class A+), Aldebaran is a binary star system: an orange giant and distant red dwarf star-Alpha Tauri. Aldebaran is 54 lyr from Earth.

Alini Sector (Romulan): A well-established sector within the Romulan Empire, it fell to Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now primarily occupied by Klingon forces and their Romulan slaves.

Alliance, the: The Treaty of Alliance (signed in 2355 AD) was the official agreement that established a limited partnership between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, a treaty that ended centuries of cold war and outright war between the two interstellar powers. Vulcan Ambassador Sarek was one of the key figures behind the negotiations that created the alliance, and his son, Ambassador Spock, was the one who proposed the alliance. The Treaty was regarded with controversy when first suggested, but later proved to be a cornerstone for peace in the Alpha Quadrant. The Federation-Klingon alliance represented a fundamental shift in the balance of power in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, as the two former enemies united. According to the treaty's terms, each side could request the other's assistance in fighting against its enemies. This clause, in part, forced the Romulan Star Empire to the sidelines, unable to compete against the combined forces of the Federation and the Klingons. As a result, the Romulans devoted considerable resources towards trying to break up the alliance, albeit without success. Also, an important part of the Treaty did not permit interference in the internal affairs of the signatories. Then-new Klingon Chancellor Gowron requested Federation assistance in the Klingon Civil War of 2368 AD per the treaty, but the request was declined as it was an internal conflict. The Alliance Treaty we invoked after the Neutral Zone Crisis of late 2368 AD and both the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets went to war against the Romulans (the Resolute War) shortly thereafter, overwhelming the Star Empire in six years of heavy fighting. The war bloodied all sides and prepared the Federation and Klingons for the Dominion War, which broke out almost immediately after the Resolute War ended.

Alpha Centauri (star): Alpha Centauri is a inhabited planetary system that is located approximately four light years from Sol (it is located in the Beta Quadrant). This star system is a trinary system of three stars – Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, and Alpha Centauri C (or Proxima Centauri). The seventh planet in the system was the homeworld of a group of Humans, called Centaurians. Alpha Centauri became a Federation founding member in 2161, the fifth to join after Earth, Andor, Vulcan, and Tellar. Alpha Centauri was already inhabited by a humanoid species when Terran explorers first ventured there in 2066. The Terrans traded their warp drive technology for Centaurian terraforming technology, to repair Earth's shattered ecosystem in the aftermath of World War III. By the 24th century, the system's three inhabited planets and various space stations and outposts supported a population of over 21 billion sentient individuals. Alpha Centauri is a major hub for communication and trade within the Federation, as well as military-grade shipbuilding (much of it automated). It is also the largest producer of terraforming technology and equipment in the UFP. Alpha Centauri mainly imports raw materials that the Centaurans refuse to mine in order to avoid damage to their environment. Trade between Earth and Centaurus is enormous, with the primary export being oil to Earth. By the end of the 24th century, Alpha Centauri had become a thoroughly cosmopolitan world, full of newcomers and established immigrants from across the Federation. In the event that Earth must ever be evacuated, Alpha Centauri has been designated as an alternate capitol for the UFP, and the system's defense is prioritized below only that of Earth and Vulcan. In case of an actual emergency, Starfleet often stages wargames and simulations in the system. During the Resolute War the Centauri System came under military attack by a large Romulan fleet but it was beaten back, but with significant losses on all sides. In the mid-24th century, Dr. Leah Brahms resided in this system and she was a student at the prestigious University of Alpha Centauri. Later, she helped design several critical systems of the famous Galaxy-class starships, and she then successfully developed transwarp drive for the Federation. In the year 2404 AD a transwarp hub was created in the Centauri System and named in her honor.

Alpha Quadrant: The Alpha Quadrant is the common designation for one-quarter of the Milky Way Galaxy. It was adjacent to the Beta Quadrant and the Gamma Quadrant. One-quarter of the galactic core is also located in this quadrant. In late 24th century interstellar politics and diplomacy, the four great powers in the Alpha Quadrant were the United Federation of Planets, the Cardassian Union, the Klingon Empire, and Romulan Star Empire, though majority of the territory held by the latter two is found in the Beta Quadrant. Other powers at the time were divided into two groups. The mercantile powers, like the Ferengi Alliance, traded with the great powers. The isolationist powers, like the Breen Confederacy and the Tholian Assembly, defended their territory aggressively and, would on occasion, battle with other powers. By the late 23rd century, the Alpha Quadrant still remained largely unexplored by the United Federation of Planets, which is currently the largest interstellar power in the region.

Altair System: This star system has two inhabited planets, Altair III and Altair VI. Altair III is inhabited by a native alien race which is very hostile to humanoids. Altair III is a low tech planet and an iceworld. Population and government type are unknown. Altair VI is a high-tech planet with 300 million population. The government is a federal republic and is an Associate Member of the Federation with good ship facilities (Class B). The Altair System is located 18 light years from Earth and it's primary star is 10x's as bright as Sol. Altair also has a companion star.

Alth'ndor Prime (Romulan): Alth'ndor Prime: Located in the Iconia Sector of the Romulan Empire, this planet was a major Romulan colony world with a huge military-grade shipyard in orbit. Alth'ndor Prime was attacked and occupied by Klingon forces during the Resolute War in the year 2369 AD and remains under their control.

Ambassador-class starship (UFP): The Ambassador-class was a type of Federation heavy cruiser in service to Starfleet in the early 24th century into the 25th century. The Ambassador-class was designed to be a replacement for the aging fleet of Excelsior-class and Constellation-class vessels which had been in service for over three decades, and to create a true front-line heavy cruiser. Between 2325 and 2360, the Ambassador-class heavy cruisers were the primary capital ships of Starfleet until 2372, when Starfleet stopped production of these ships in favor of the larger, more resilient Galaxy class starships.

Ambassadorial-class starship (UFP): In the third year of the Resolute War, Starfleet Command began receiving capital-class warships in the form of the hybrid Ambassadorial-class battleships and dreadnoughts. These pure warships were thrown together from parts of retired Federation ships, mainly the saucer section of the old Ambassador-class explorer vessels and a new military -grade primary hull . The development of these battleships sparked a whole new successful phase of the war for the Federation, helping to end the war just a year later. Because of their usually enormous personnel requirements, the entire Ambassadorial-class was mothballed shortly after the war, with 12 of the latest dreadnoughts being placed into storage at the Aldebaran Yards.

Andor (UFP planet): Alien homeworld of 7 billion, the government is a militant androcracy. A Founding Member of the Federation and a ice planet, Andor has excellent ship facilities (Class A+). Andorians are a very warlike race and are most comfortable on ice planets. The eight of nine planets, Andor circles Epsilon Indi, an orange dwarf star. The Andorians have colonized over a dozen worlds since the creation of the UFP.

Andorians (race): A militant race of aliens with deep blue skin and antennae on their heads, the Andorians are proud to be one of the Founding Members of the Federation and they have an extensive presence within Starfleet.

Andromeda Galaxy: One of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way Galaxy, the large Andromeda Galaxy was known for its enormous size and beauty, and the Andromedan invaders of 2267 AD (the Kelvin Empire). In year 2390 AD in the Second Federation the Originator "Gateway" was discovered, and a quick interstellar bridge to the Andromeda and Triangulum galaxies could be created using the device. Starfleet Command, under orders from the Federation Council, began explore Andromeda using this pan-stellar link in 2395 AD, finding many alien cultures in that distant galaxy. Sometime later, the Herald Dyson Sphere was discovered in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Andromeda Galaxy Device: This vast interstellar bridge was created long ago by the Preservers, with Starfleet scientist best estimates being around 1 million years BC. This immense portal creates a near instant transit portal between the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies and it is bound at both ends by a massive gravity well: a large and ancient and slow-moving black hole (known as the "Anchorpoint"). The Gateway has Devices at both ends so travel between the galaxies goes both ways. There is a size and weight limitation in using the Gateway Device: starships must be able to fit through the portal and the mass restriction is around 50 million tons. The Milky Way Device is under the control of the United Federation of Planets (it was first discovered by the Second Federation) and is heavily defended, mostly by automated weaponry. Starfleet Command has begun sending exploratory starships through the gateway from 2405 AD onward. A second Gateway Device to the Triangulum Galaxy was recently activated by the Milky Way Device and exploration by Starfleet vessels is scheduled to begin next year.

Andromedans: The Kelvan Empire was a significant power in the Andromeda Galaxy, including the Kelvan homeworld and acquired territories. The Kelvan ethos called for expansion through the conquest and control of "inferior" species, rather than traditional colonization. Kelvans predicted rising radiation levels in Andromeda would render their galaxy uninhabitable to their species within ten millennia. In the mid-1960s, the Kelvan Empire dispatched multi-generational starships to their neighboring galaxies, searching for new territories suitable for conquest and occupation. A Kelvan expedition arrived in the Milky Way Galaxy in 2268 AD. The military power and influence of the Kelvan Empire in relation to other Andromedan civilizations is unclear. Kelvans encountered by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) possessed highly advanced technology, and did not regard the Federation as a significant impediment to conquest.

Annex Zone: The United Federation of Planets begin exploring a new unclaimed region of space (on the far side of Klingon and Romulan space) and in 2330 AD a new special "Annex Zone" was created, allowing for additional UFP colonization and exploration into the region. This area had previously been ignored by both Romulus and Q'onoS mainly because it had very few planets, and neither Empire wanted to increase contact points along the border with each other if they could help it. Luckily, this made for a ripe opportunity for the Federation as it increased relations in the region with local alien races, bringing them into the UFP. In the following years, these races (the Mikulaks, the Hus, and the Mibrannu) all contributed recognizable improvements to UFP sciences. In addition, Starfleet defenses in this "Annex" region were slowly built up over time to avoid alarming either neighboring Empire and included the Starbases 36, 117, 173, 13, the huge Canopus Fleet Base, and the military-only Gallipoli Defense Station. Later, these bases were used during the Resolute War by the Federation to stage attacks along with the Klingon Empire deep into Romulan territory. Since the discovery of a dyson sphere in the Annex, the area has continued to draw colonists to it. A pro-UFP polity (the Adriatic Federation) was also located in the region but was eventually absorbed into the UFP after the war ended.

Antares System (star): The twin stars that make up this system are referred to as Antares A and Antares B. The system's stars are spectral class M and spectral class B, respectively. It is one of the Federation's most remote systems as well as being its most coreward. At many points in the vicinity of the Federation, Antares is one of the brightest bodies visible. The system's local inhabitants are known as the Antarans, who have spread out across the system from Beta Antares IV. The numerous inhabited worlds are politically united as the Antares Corona Worlds, and are represented on the Federation Council. Starfleet's large automated Beta Antares Ship Yards were in the Antares System (at Antares IV). One of the worlds in the Antares system was the "city-planet" Andros, and Antares is also in the general vicinity of the high-population Cerberus System.

Archer-class starship (UFP): The Archers' were built by the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet and designed as a interdiction escort cruiser. This type of vessel was initially developed to police the large areas of the UFP and was constructed in record time. Although this class of starship was only lightly armed and armored, they carried just 250 personnel (an unheard of number for such a large starship). The Archers' have a good range at high warp, and can persistently pursue even the most fleet and tireless fugitive. With the eventual development of the 5th generation of defense shields, the Archers were suddenly equipped with a much more powerful defensive shield that would let it stay in a fight longer. During the Resolute War, the majority of these vessels were used extensively in the Federation Annex in support of Starfleet operations in the region. They proved very effective in the interdiction role and were continually used for the next 80 years.

Arganthonios (2 UFP): A jumbo-sized waterworld located near the giant star Deneb, it was first discovered by Second Federation survey vessels. It is now a colonization spot for the United Federation of Planets and is noted for its very unique water borne life. Arganthonios is four times the size of Earth but has a much lower gravity than normal, just 1.2G.

Argolis Cluster: A rich cluster of habitable worlds located near Cardassian space and the location of the Tagran and Selelvian homeworlds, as well as several new Federation colonies.

Athega III (planet): Located in the Narendra Sector of the Romulan Empire, this planet was the scene of early fighting in the Resolute War, easily falling to joint Klingon-Federation forces that attacked this world in the year 2368 AD.

Atlantis A: Located in the Dubhe System and colonized in 2168 AD, this planet is a massive waterworld that has significant dilithium deposits. It was colonized by humans from a Earth nation called the "United States" and has a current population of over 100 million people.

Atlantis B: Located in the Dubhe System and colonized in 2220 AD, this planet is a massive waterworld that has significant dilithium deposits. It was colonized by humans from a Earth nation called "England" and has a total population of over 80 million people.

Atlantis C: Located in the Dubhe System and colonized in 2226 AD, this planet is a massive waterworld that has significant dilithium deposits. It was colonized by humans from a Earth province called "Texas" and has a population of over 50 million people.

Axanar: A alien homeworld of 1.2 billion, the government is a patriarchy. An Associate Member of the Federation with poor ship facilities (Class D). A single star system (Red), Axanar is the fourth of fifteen planets.

Azuli (race): A bipedal humanoid species that was conquered by the Romulans generations ago, their homeworld has become a UFP Protectorate now that the Resolute War has ended.

Azuli Homeworld (planet): Located in the B'Tran Sector of the Romulan Empire, this alien homeworld was liberated by Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now a "protectorate" held by the UFP.

Azure Sector (Romulan): A well-established sector within the Romulan Empire, it fell to Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now primarily occupied by Klingon forces and their Romulan slaves.

Babel: A neutral planetoid where many important Federation situations have been defused, Babel is located in a star system deep within the Federation.

Bajor Sector: The Bajor sector (also known as Federation Sector 47) is a region of space in the Alpha Quadrant. The sector contains the Bajoran system (home of the Bajorans), the Federation space station Deep Space 9 and the sector is notable for its location at the entrance of a stable wormhole, the Bajoran wormhole. A chart of the area indicates that the Bajoran Sector is a cubic area (width = 85 ly, length = 102 ly, depth = 90 ly) that contains over a dozen major star systems and many stellar points of interest. The Bajor system is 50 light years from the Federation's outer perimeter.

Bajor (UFP planet): Bajor is a class M planet, the seventh planet in orbit of the Bajoran star system in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, sited near the Bajoran wormhole and the Denorios Belt. Its capital city is Ashalla and it is one of the oldest civilizations in the Alpha Quadrant, flourishing about half a million years ago and undertaking its first interstellar flights around the 16th century. This system was located in the Bajor sector, a area of space in the Alpha Quadrant and is also situated near the Badlands and the Demilitarized Zone. It is also just sixty light years from Ferenginar, a major trade world. It is the largest planet in the system and has five moons, the largest being the semi-habitable Derna and Jeraddo. The planet is the homeworld of the Bajorans, a warp-capable humanoid species and almost 4 billion Bajorans lived on Bajor in 2378. From about 2319 AD to 2369 AD, Bajor was occupied by the Cardassian Union. During this time, the Cardassians not only decimated the Bajoran population and destroyed large parts of its infrastructure, but also poisoned several areas of the planet in order to compromise the food supply after their withdrawal. After decades of Cardassian rule, the planet regained its independence and became affiliated with the United Federation of Planets in 2369. Although Bajor maintained a secular government, religious leadership personified by the Kai as the head of the Vedek Assembly was also an important aspect of social cohesion on Bajor and, thus, also held great political influence. The planet's government is officially named the "Third Republic of Bajor" and it was admitted into the Federation in 2374, but the process was not ratified. Bajor signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion in December 2373 to avoid becoming involved in that deadly conflict. The Cardassian mining station (Terok Nor) was placed into the custodianship of Starfleet, who renamed the station Deep Space 9 and placed it at the mouth of the wormhole to secure this strategic location. After the Dominion War ended, the planet finally joined the United Federation of Planets on September 29, 2376 AD.

Bajorans: The Bajorans are a humanoid race, distinguished outwardly only by extra wrinkles at the bridge of the nose, have wandered the galaxy and settled on various worlds ever since their homeland was forcibly occupied by Cardassians 40 years previously (circa 2328 AD). The ancient Bajorans had a tremendously rich and developed civilization complete with architecture, art, philosophy and even some technology before human beings on Earth became bipedal. Many Bajorans have joined Starfleet despite their home planet of Bajor still being in recovery from the Cardassian occupation, while others prefer to work with the Federation from within the Bajoran system. The depth and complexity of Bajoran spiritual beliefs has been at the core of their ability to survive 40 years of suffering at the hands of the Cardassians. To the Bajorans, the land and the people who live on it are one and the same. Bajorans are led by both a spiritual leader (Kai) and by a provisional government. Since the discovery of the wormhole near the Bajoran homeworld on stardate 46379, the Bajorans have enjoyed an increase in political power in their sector, but only after decades of victimization during the Cardassian occupation of their planet. Bajor's tradition of art and architecture was strewn around countless planets before the occupation. Its science and space programs were back on track soon after the occupation: at least one probe was sent to scan planets and life signs in the Gamma Quadrant. Relations between Bajorans and their former oppressors can still be testy.

Barclay, Reginald (person): A Starfleet technology specialist, Ensign Barclay has been noted for a number of increased high-tech advances within the Federation, including improved transporter functioning, a powerful new shield system for starships, cutting-edge long distance communications, and a new organic-interface for computers.

Barclay's Shield Bubble: The invention of Starfleets' new 5th generation shields was a direct result of Starfleet specialist (Ensign Reginald Barclay) encounter with an unknown space probe while posted aboard the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701D). It was during an attack by the probe that Ensign Barclay formulated a plan to increase shield power by over 300%. Permanent computer logs over the incident were downloaded at Starbase 221 and analyzed but when asked about his radical new theory, the ensign was unable (or unwilling) to explain it or it's origins. New computer programs outlaying increased shield output were then relayed to all Federation starships, outposts, and member planets in good standing. NOTE: significant warp engine power is needed to sustain the strength of this field and as a result it cannot be formed while travelling at warp speeds.

Barzan Wormhole: The Barzan wormhole is a "Einstein-Rosen bridge" which had one terminus near the Barzan homeworld in the Alpha Quadrant and another that was in the Delta Quadrant. In 2366, the Barzan people began taking bids on who would get to utilize the space-time tunnel, although the negotiations collapsed when it was discovered the other terminus of the wormhole was erratic and therefor worthless for use. Sometime later, when it looked likely that the United Federation of Planets and their allies would loose the Dominion War, several small fleets of pacifist colonists decided to risk passage through the wormhole on three separate occasions: they wanted settle in a "safe area" away from the fighting. Eventually, signals from these refugee fleets indicated they were able to settle several different worlds successfully but they widely separated by hundreds of light years from each other. Later, a local "garbologist" urged the Barzan government to use the wormhole as a way to get rid of unwanted waste, including those from local star systems and various neighboring empires; the Barzan politicians agreed to consider the idea but at this date no decision has been made.

Bennaris (planet): Located near the giant star Deneb just outside of Second Federation space, Bennaris is the homeworld of the bug-like Bennarite race and the only known location of boromite and orellium ore. A near-warp civilization, the Bennarites are now major trading partners with the Federation, selling their vital ore to the UFP. Bennaris is extremely large volcanic world that is almost completely hostile to humanoid life but the armored Bennarites thrive there, underground. Bennaris is more than 3,000 light years from the core worlds (Earth, Andor, Tellar, Centaurus, and Vulcan) of the Federation.

Bennarites (race): A race of bug-like aliens that stand barely 5 feet tall, the Bennarites are a gregarious race, getting along well with other alien races they meet. Since becoming trade partners with the Federation, they have been gifted with several warp-speed UFP runabouts and are currently exploring their local area of space, a region near the giant star Deneb. They are being considered as potential members by UFP Contact Teams.

Benzar System (UFP): Benzar is the inhabited second planet located in the Benzite system, the homeworld of the Benzite civilization, and a significant member of the United Federation of Planets. Benzar's atmosphere differs somewhat from class-M norms, so much that before the 2370s Benzites moving off-world required a specialized respiration device. The planet was badly damaged by Romulan forces during the Resolute War but the entire system became heavily armed after that attack (the Benzar Defense Perimeter), enough to later hold off a joint Cardassian/Dominion attack in 2375 AD. The system's primary is a G-class star. Benzar is a member planet of the Federation. It is the third planet in the Gamma Xertia system, which its' natives call it Pheradon.

Beta Quadrant: The Beta Quadrant is the common designation for one-quarter of the Milky Way Galaxy. It is adjacent to the Alpha and Delta Quadrants. Also, one-quarter of the galactic core is located in this quadrant. A large part of the Klingon Empire, including Qo'noS, is located in the Beta Quadrant. In the 24th century the majority of the Romulan Star Empire is located in this region. The United Federation of Planets has colonized a region of the Beta Quadrant, near the star Canopus and later discovered a impossibly large dyson sphere within this area. In the early 25th century, the creation of transwarp gates by the Federation has opened up the Beta Quadrant to new and exciting exploration and colonization.

Betazed (planet): Betazed is a planet and the homeworld of the Betazoids, a highly telepathic humanoid civilization. It is an important member of the United Federation of Planets. During the Dominion War in 2374, Betazed was invaded by the Dominion from the neighboring Kalandra Sector. The Federation Tenth Fleet had been assigned to defend Betazed and its outlying colonies, but was caught out of position on a training exercise. The planets' obsolete and undermanned planetary defense system were quickly overwhelmed, and the planet fell to enemy forces in under ten hours. With Betazed captured, other important nearby worlds, including Vulcan, Tellar, Alpha Centauri, and Andor, were suddenly at risk of Dominion attack. Betazed was eventually freed from Dominion control in late 2375 AD after heavy fighting in and around the star system. Betazed is the second planet in the Betazed System and its parent star is class-M.

Betazoids (race): The Betazoids are a telepathic humanoid civilization originating from the Federation planet Betazed, located in the Alpha Quadrant near the border with the Cardassian Union. They look very similar to humans and can cross-breed with them, and they are known as some of the galaxys' most powerful telepaths, being able to read the minds of most other alien species. During the Dominion War their planet was occupied by enemy forces and the people suffered greatly during that time. Eventually the Federation was able to free Betazed from Dominion control. The Betazoids are known to the Borg as Species 1599.

Beth Delta One (UFP): A mixed Federation colony of 100 million, the government is a democracy. An Associate Member of the UFP, Beth Delta I is an important research colony within the Federation. It is a planetoid located in the Myriss System.

Big Blotto: The Centauri System system contains three stars, Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, and a very distant Proxima Centauri (Alpha Centauri C) and there are several habitable worlds in the system, including the Centauri homeworld. Some of these worlds have large virgin oil fields which has generated a lucrative export business with nearby Earth: the hunger for petroleum has never abated on humanitys' homeworld even though it ran out two centuries ago. Although Earth now uses the precious fluid only for the production of plastics and pharmaceuticals, Earth produces a lot of plastics and pharmaceuticals. The outermost habitable planet (Centaurus) was initially much too hot to colonize by humans until Big Blotto was built with oil revenues. Big Blotto is an automated station in a Luna-type orbit about half a million kilometers from Beta Centauri: it makes one complete turn once per month. The station sets up a hyperpolarized field, and Beta is effectively gone from the sky, blotted out. Beta's heat and light never reach Centaurus now because the planet sits in the 'shadow' of the hyper-polarized field and Big Blotto also absorbs a large amount of solar energy, enough to meet the needs of the citizens of Centaurus and pay for its operation.

Blueheart Nebula: an immense gaseous nebula located near the giant star Deneb, nearly 3,000 light years from the core worlds of the Federation. Its boundaries create the borders between the nearby alien races and the Second Federation.

Bolbod Homeworld (planet): located half-way down the Federation "Arm", this planet is a vital resupply port for colonization of the Deneb region. It is also the location of the homeworld of the Bolbods.

Bolbods (race): this is an alien race that has been used by a much older race as cannon fodder in many ancient wars. Eventually the Bolbods turned on their "masters" (over 100 years ago) and stole their warp-capable ships, and began exploring their local region of space. However, they have never colonized any other world. They are an aggressively militant race but so far the United Federation of Planets has been able to maintain a cordial relationship with them, mainly through trade (they love new toys).

Bolbold Sector (UFP): Part of the Federation "Arm" that connects the core worlds of the Federation to the Second Federation region. This area is a supersector, encompassing 36 sectors and several hundred star systems, most of which are currently unexplored. The sector capital is located at the Bolbod Homeworld, a new Federation allied race.

Bolarus (UFP planet): Bolarus IX (also known as Bolarus, Bolius IX, or Bolias) is the inhabited ninth planet in its star system; the primary is a Class B star. This planet is also the homeworld of the Bolians, a warp-capable humanoid species. It is a member of the United Federation of Planets and it is located in the Bolian sector of the Alpha Quadrant; the star system has a large subgiant blue star, named Bolarus. The Bolian Homeworld itself is stormy and oceanic, and situated close to the Cardassian DMZ. During the 2360s, Bolarus IX shared an uneasy cease-fire with a neighboring alien race, the Moropa. During the Dominion War (2374-76), the Bolian front was a major area of conflict and important to the defense of the Federation: this system was threatened by the Dominion from occupied Benzar, a nearby Federation world.

Bolians (race): Bolians are a humanoid alien race that are an important part of the United Federation of Planets and their homeworld is Bolarus IX. Bolians are distinguished by their light blue skin with a vertical cartilaginous ridge bifurcating their heads and running down to the middle of their chest. Their cobalt-based blood chemistry is compatible with Andorians, but toxic to Vulcans. Typically Bolians were gregarious, hardworking, and meticulous. They enjoyed cooperation and work group dynamics. Bolians work well in professions that privilege group cooperation and group effort; every branch of starship service suits their desire for teamwork and structure. Bolians also make good merchants, scientists, and soldiers. Bolians enjoy diplomacy and some of them are quite good at it. Bolian nationalists have occasionally joined criminal gangs such as the Orion Syndicate—they make good rogues in those cases. Some Bolians practice polygamous marriages. When more than one male is involved in such a relationship, they are known as co-husbands. Bolians are completely bald, were on average as tall as the average Human male, and are not known for their physical prowess. Intimate relations between Bolians and Humans typically causes adverse effects to the latter, which could include fatigue, nausea, and joint inflammation. On December 18th 2127 AD, the first successful warp drive test was conducted in the Bolarus System. Their homeworld is located near the Cardassian Union and the Bolians quickly found themselves in a long cold war with the Cardassians. This interstellar tension erupted into the Bolians Wars in the early 2300s and eventually dragged the United Federation of Planets into the conflict, sparking the much larger Border Wars. Eventually Bolarus joined the Federation as the conflicts wound down. Later, Bolian territory was a hotbed between the Federation and the Dominion during the Dominion War. A front was established by the Sixth Fleet in 2374 AD to prevent Dominion forces from taking the Bolian border and outlying colonies. Eventually the Dominion was defeated and the Bolians went back to a peaceful existence.

Bolian Wars: A decade long war between the Bolian Polity (and their allies) against the Cardassian Union, the Bolian Wars grew into a conflict which eventually forced the United Federation of Planets to intervene in the fighting, widening the conflict and eventually evolving into the all-out Border Wars. Sparked by a dispute over colony worlds, the Bolians were eventually were forced on the defensive by a sudden Cardassian Navy strike against all the contested worlds, wiping out all Bolian colonists and emplacing their own people on these firebombed worlds. At the time the Bolian people were allied with the insectoid Snee and the aquatic Jrlb races, but both were eventually wiped out during the Bolian Wars by ruthless Cardassian attacks. The Bolian homeworld itself suffered brutal bombardment in the First Bolian War, forcing a partial surrender to the Cardassian Union. Two years later the oppressive regime that the Cardassians had installed across Bolarus was annihilated after repeated efforts by the occupiers to coerce the planetary populace by killing innocent civilians at random. This event sparked the Second Bolan War, which saw numerous (and mostly outdated) independent starships being snapped up by the Bolians to defend themselves against Cardassian repercussions. These small warships and interstellar freighters were bought in to the service of the newly forming Bolian Navy and were quickly rearmed and shielded, deploying them in orbit to defend Bolarus. Two more years of brutal (and mostly non-conventional) combat saw the Bolians gradually losing the war but final intervention by the United Federation of Planets prevented a catastrophe and Bolians went on to become members of the Federation in 2365 AD. The third war between the Cardassians and the Bolians eventually morphed into an all-out conflict with the Federation, culminating in the decades-long Border Wars.

Bo'mosk-class starship (Klingon): This brand-new destroyer class starship was developed by the Klingon House of Ta'moth during the latter part of the Resolute War, and proved to be somewhat of a dud. Its major flaws were poorly designed engines which crippled the ships' ability to maintain warp speeds above Warp 7 and sublight speeds barely above .50c. In addition, its fire control system was faulty from the outset and had to be completely gutted and rewired in the first two dozen ships in this class. They also had an extremely limited firing arc (forward-facing only) which crippled its defensive abilities. The Bo'mosk destroyers initially saw combat on the front lines but its poor overall performance allowed Klingon Fleet Admirals to reassign this slower but heavily armed and armored destroyer to patrol duties including convoy escort and rear-area operations.

Borg Attacks: In the year 2365 AD the omnipotent being "Q" flung the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D to the system J-25, where it encountered one of the Borg survey cubes, making official first contact with that race. The Borg deemed the Enterprise worthy of assimilation and began to pursue it but the Enterprise was rescued at the last moment by Q. Upon returning, Starfleet command was informed of the Borg threat. Immediately, Starfleet began the task of studying and creating a defense against the Borg.

Later the same year the same cube from system J-25 arrived in Federation space. There it assimilated the starship USS Lalothe Federation New Providence Colony, and eventually the captain of the Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard. A fleet of 39 starships intercepted the cube at Wolf 359 in hopes of stopping it: all but one ship (the USS Endeavor NCC-71805) were destroyed. The Borg cube was destroyed however when an away team from the Enterprise managed to rescue captain Picard from the Collective, and they used his connection to the Borg to implant a 'sleep' order in the cube (making it regenerate). That created a power-net feedback, annilating it while it orbited Earth. After this fiasco, Starfleet began developing new defenses against the Borg, including the close-escort warship USS Defiant

Just a few years later (in 2370 AD) the Borg dispatched five Borg cubes to attack Earth and conquer the Federation, but a deadly rogue "planet killer" and Starfleet Command were able to halt the assault. In 2373 AD a more powerful time-travel Borg cube once again tried to assimilate Earth but an armada of Starfleet ships including the USS Defiant intercepted it in the Typhon Sector. The cube broke through the fleet lines and proceeded to Earth, though it was forced to fight a running battle. The USS Defiant managed to stay in the fight for the entire battle. The cube eventually reached Earth but was stopped when the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E arrived and Captain Picard discovered a weakness in the cube's shield matrix which he transmitted to the rest of the fleet. All the remaining ships concentrated their fire on the weak spot and destroyed the cube. A small Borg sphere escaped the destruction and attempted to travel back in time to stop humanity's first warp flight, but it was followed by the Enterprise and eventually stopped.

While observers wonder why the Borg Collective didn't use all-out force (and hundreds of cubes) to attack and defeat the Federation, no one realized that they had suffered several significant setbacks including a devastating Civil War, a ultra-deadly conflict with Species 8472, and the eventual destruction of their vital Transwarp Network (in 2378 AD) by Starfleet Captain Janeway. Eventually the Borg were dissolved by the joint efforts of a rogue Borg faction known as the Borg Cooperative and Starfleet Command (in 2380 AD). The surviving faction of the Borg Civil War settled near Federation space, eventually signing the peace treaty known as the Setisar Treaty (in 2425 AD).

Borg Central Unicomplex: The Unicomplex was a vast Borg complex located in the Delta Quadrant and composed of thousands of connected structures/hubs spanning at least 600 kilometres across. It housed hundreds of Borg ships and trillions of drones and was considered, by the independent drones of the Borg Communality, to be the home of the Borg Queen. This complex was likely the closest thing that the Borg have ever had to a physical capital or headquarters. The Unicomplex was severely damaged (and possibly destroyed) in 2378 AD, after the Borg Queen assimilated a neurolytic pathogen from the future Admiral Janeway, who had traveled back in time to bring USS Voyager home.

Borg Commune: the survivors of the Borg Civil War eventually relocated to a vast nebula just outside of Federation space. Here, nearly 2 million newly freed Borg set about to create their own society. The rebel Borg arrived in four large cubes, 8 tactical vessels, 6 spheres, and a dozen minor vessels. They created a new colony which was hidden deep within the nebula, and immediately contacted the United Federation of Planets, seeking an alliance. The Borg Commune began secretly  collaborating with the UFP but it took decades to sign a formal agreement, called the Treaty of Setisar (which was signed in 2425 AD). However, the early scientific collaboration between these two communities has been extremely productive, helping the Federation to develop new anti-Borg weaponry as well as nanotech medical technology. Later, the Borg annihilated the last of the Romulan fleet as it passed the nebula, seeking to recreate their Empire deeper in the Delta Quadrant. This subgroup is also known as the Borg Communality. NOTE: in my timeline, Unimatrix Zero occurs in 2372 AD.

Borg Co-Operative: This small Borg community was the result of a large Borg cube being disabled (in 2373 AD) and its crew returned to their own individual minds. More than 100,000 different aliens were freed when the vessel was damaged and the survivors fled to a nearby world. With Starfleet Commander Chakotay's help, these local Borg were able to re-assert a more benevolent hive mind. Over time, this Borg colony prospered and contact was re-established with the Federation some years later. Using the Borg Cooperative's help in 2380 AD, Starfleet was able to destroy or disable most of the Borg Collective, but details on how this was done is scanty and apparently Ultra-Top Secret. Starfleet maintains an alliance with the Cooperative to this day.

Borg Collective: One of the galaxy's most destructive forces, the Borg Collective could (and did) destroy or assimilate entire worlds and civilizations, killing and maiming billions of victims as it expanded across the galaxy. The Borg were only halted a few times during their aeons of expansion, most recently by a war with a toxic organic species known as "8472", and a serious civil war, and again when Admiral Janeway was able to destroy the Borgs' transwarp network and central Unimatrix. Eventually the vast Collective was dissolved by efforts of Starfleet Command and a rogue Borg faction in 2380 AD. NOTE: In my timeline, eventually most of the Collective would be destroyed or dissolved by humans from the United Federation of Planets with the assistance of a small Borg enclave located in the Delta Quadrant, the Borg Cooperative.

Borg Transwarp Network: The Borg transwarp network in the 24th century was a vast series of transwarp conduits spanning the entire Milky Way Galaxy. The conduits in the network were connected by six titanically immense transwarp "hubs". The network maintained thousands of exit apertures in all four quadrants of the galaxy, allowing the Borg Collective to deploy vessels almost anywhere within the galaxy within minutes, giving the Borg a decisive strategic advantage. The transwarp network was destroyed in 2378 AD by Captain Kathryn Janeway and the the crew of the USS Voyager.

Bosphi (UFP planet): This class-M world was discovered when the United Federation of Planets began its expansion down the "Deneb Arm". It now has more than 10 million colonists and is the sector capital for the region.

Bosphi Sector (UFP): Part of the Federation "Arm" that connects the core worlds of the Federation to the Second Federation region around the star Deneb. This area is a supersector, encompassing 36 sectors and several hundred star systems, most of which are currently unexplored. The sector capital is located on the extremely Earth-like world of Bosphi, with a support shipyard in orbit.

Bradley's World (2 UFP): This planet is an exact duplicate of Earth, a mirror-world with the same continents, plants and animals, and even weather patterns. Researchers from Starfleet/Deneb were stunned when they first discovered this world and its human Steampunk inhabitants. Their technology levels were as high as the UFP and they were brought fairly quickly into the Second Federation and it has become a important world in the growing region around Deneb. Population is 5 billion humans.

B'Tran Sector (Romulan): A distant sector within the Romulan Empire, it fell to Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now primarily occupied by Klingon forces. This region is also the location of the Chlorzhi and Azuli homeworlds; both are post-war Federation protectorates.

Burst Phasers: Developed for the Defiant-class assault craft with the Borg in mind, these beam weapons proved effective during the Dominion War and their use was expanded to several different classes of starships after that conflict ended.

Cait (UFP planet): A important member of the Federation. Caitians are a friendly cat-like race and their homeworld is a major shipbuilding center. It is located 178 light years from Earth and has 12 planets in orbit of its sun (15 Lyncis). Cait is the second planet in the system, which is a significant source of dilithium.

Caitians: This cat-like alien race is related to the Kzinti, but are from a distant planet on the outer edges of the early Federation. The felinoid Caitians and the warlike Kzinti share common roots in the deep past — as do Vulcans and Romulans. As with the Vulcans and the Romulans, the two groups went their separate ways to develop as two entirely different civilizations. The Caitians are fierce warriors when so called upon, but pride themselves on their many accomplishments in arts and philosophy rather than on the martial arts. Natives of Cait tend to be small and sinewy instead of large and bulky like the aggressive Kzinti. Caitians are "known throughout their quadrant for their intelligence, curiosity, loyalty and love of beauty".

Candorna Minor (Romulan): This inhabited star system was part of the Romulan Star Empire until the Resolute War. It was attacked and occupied by join Klingon and Federation forces; the local defenders were routed. Today this world is part of the Klingon Empire.

Canopus Fleet Base: a immense military base that was covertly built in the Federation Annex Zone in case of war, it became the staging point for all Starfleet forces in the region against the Romulan Empire during the Resolute War. It came under attack only once during that conflict, and suffered only minor damage by the Romulan raid.

Canopus: Located in the Federation Annex Zone, this star system has two inhabited planets: Serenity, population 2 billion with a democratic government, and Vorbarra, homeworld of the militant Vor race, population 6 billion with a autocratic patriarchy. Both are Associate Members of the Federation and have good ship facilities (B). Located in a single star system (Red Giant), Serenity is fourth and Vorbarra fifth of twelve planets.

Capella (planet): A mixed Federation colony of 1.2 billion, the government is a patriarchy. Associate Member of the Federation with poor ship facilities (Class D). A quadruple star system: two Yellow stars forming a binary, orbited at .17 light years by a Red Dwarf binary. Capella IV is fourth of eleven planets circling the primary yellow star and it is 42 light years from Earth.

Cardassian Union: A large interstellar state ruled by the militant Cardassian race, it has been at war with nearly all of its neighbors at one time or another, including the United Federation of Planets. The governing body of the Cardassian Union was the elected Detapa Council, which had ruled for centuries. However, in recent years the Council's power was usurped by Cardassian Central Command, the military branch of the government, which sadly transformed Cardassia into a police state. The Cardassian Union joined the Dominion after a devastating invasion by the Klingon Empire in late 2374 AD (my timeline) but lost the war with the rest of the Dominion forces in 2376 AD (my timeline). The Union went back to being a more benign galactic power after the war, with the reinstatement of the Detapa Council as the ruling body of the empire.

Cardassian/Federation Conflict: The Federation-Cardassian Wars (known in the Federation as the Border Wars) were prolonged conflicts between the Federation and the Cardassian Union, which started in 2347 AD and lasted into the 2350s: smaller skirmishes, not officially considered part of the wars, continued into the 2360s. The ensuing stalemate by the mid-2360s advantaged neither side in firepower or territory. In 2366 AD, open hostilities between the UFP and Cardassians finally ended. A 2367 truce enforced an end to hostilities but left key questions unresolved; the finalized treaty, unsigned until 2370, formed a demilitarized zone between the powers, creating a new border and clarifying claims to dozens of border planets. Losses during the wars left deep scars on both sides but the signing of the Jankata Accord formally ended the war.

Cardassians: The Cardassians are an aggressive humanoid species from the Alpha Quadrant and they were native to the planet Cardassia Prime, capital world of the Cardassian Union. Known throughout the Alpha Quadrant for being extremely ruthless, the Cardassians became one of the greatest enemies of the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, when the Cardassian Union joined the Dominion in 2373 AD. Cardassians had a xenophobic attitude towards other species, which was well established throughout the quadrant after the Setlik III massacre during the Cardassian Border Wars, as well as when Cardassian atrocities during the Occupation of Bajor were revealed after they withdrew from the planet Bajor in 2369 AD. Cardassians are similar to Romulans in their xenophobic tendencies, and also shared a Romulan belief that there was no such thing as luck. Like the Breen, they treated their prisoners with little tolerance or sympathy, and had no qualms with using torture to extract information. Some Cardassians were even known to enjoy torturing their prisoners and to do it whether there was information to be extracted or not. The Cardassians were well known for their photographic memories, enabled by rigorous childhood training. They were well known for genetic engineering, even allowing other galactic powers to study their creations, such as the Federation. The ideal Cardassian life was one of complete loyalty and servitude to the State and family. The Cardassian government was assumed to be omniscient, omnipotent, and benevolent. In a sense, when the Cardassians abandoned their spiritual ways and began their expansion throughout the Alpha Quadrant centuries ago, they simply applied a twisted form of their religion to their political philosophy. During the Dominion War it became blatantly obvious that Female Changeling made territorial concessions to the Breen in 2375 AD (in order to convince them to join the Dominion) including some Cardassian worlds. Eventually, the Cardassians revolted and Dominion forces began escalated atrocities against Cardassian civilians attempting to quell the revolt, which enraged the Cardassian military. Near the end of the Dominion War, nearly the entire Cardassian fleet turned on the Dominion, allowing the United Federation of Planets and their allies to gain a decisive advantage during the Battle of Cardassia and eventually win the Dominion War.

Castax (star system): Located in Second Federation space, the Castax System is made up of 6 co-orbiting stars and has five habitable worlds. It has become a major colonization zone for the Federation. One of these planets is homeworld of the human-sized caterpillar-like Castax race.

Centauri (race): The Alpha Centaurans, also known simply as Centaurans or Centaurians, were the native humanoid species of the planet Alpha Centauri VII, or as they called it "Al Rijil". By at least the 2360s, their total populace had reached 8 billion, second only to the Sol system. Their official government, the Centauri Concordium of Planets, was a founding member of the United Federation of Planets. The seventh planet in the system is the homeworld of a group of humans, called Centaurians. Centaurians appeared identical to Humans, bearing a specific resemblance to those native to Greece or Italy. Federation scientists found evidence this was because the population was descended from a group of Terran Greeks who had been transplanted from Earth in the 3rd century BC. The Centaurians were the first extraterrestrial civilization Humans encountered when expanding to the stars, surprising them with their human-like appearance. Today, Centaurans make up a significant number of personnel in Starfleet and they have colonized over a dozen new worlds.

Centauran System: A Founding Member of the Federation with seven planets orbiting Alpha A, including Centaurus and Al Rijil (homeworld of the Centauran race). Big Blotto (in Centauran orbit) blocks Alpha B sunlight from reaching Centaurus' surface, making Centaurus habitable for humans. Alpha C has four planets including Kent, population 50 million in fourth orbit. The Centauran System is a quadruple star system: Alpha Centauri is a Yellow star, Beta Centauri is a Orange star and Proxima Centauri is a distant Red Dwarf star. System wide population is 21 billion. Founding Member of the Federation. Excellent shipyards, including the Centauri Spaceworks. Starbase Seven is located .25 light years from the system.

Centauri Raid (2374): Towards the end of the Resolute War, the Romulan Empire began staging deep penetrating raids into Federation and Klingon space after the Battle of Two Suns, in which the Empires primary warfleet was decimated. The Romulan military command insisted on starting this new style of attack since its warships were virtually annihilated. Admirals in the high command convinced the Romulan Senate that these forms of combat was the only way to keep their enemies off-balance while they tried to rebuild their naval strength. In of these high-profile raids was into the Centauri System, and it was partially successful. On October 15th, 2374 AD a dozen Romulan warbirds decloaked at point blank range and began destroying the systems defenses and civilian infrastructure. Being one of the Founding Members of the Federation, the Centauri people had begun heavily arming their home after the Resolute War broke out and its fixed defenses were able to eventually destroy the Romulan vessels, but the system took significant damage. This attack shocked the Federation Council, waking them up to the new style of warfare that the Romulans would now be engaging in. After this suicide run by the Romulans, Starfleet Command shifted some of its starship deployments to a more "home defense" posture. Several other similar attacks by the Star Empire occurred against Federation and Klingon worlds, including a major assault against the Klingon capital world Q'onos six weeks later.

Centauri Spaceworks (UFP): A major UFP shipbuilding center, the Spaceworks is a commercial venture that sells most of its space going vessels to Starfleet Command. It has been in service since the founding of the Federation. Its' infrastructure was seriously damaged during a raid by Romulan warbirds during the Resolute War. Rebuilt, they later helped in the effort by the Federation to win the Dominion War.

Centaurus Crisis of 2268: A terrible humanitarian disaster occurred on the UFP human-colonized world Centaurus in the year 2268 AD. A terrorist group detonated a antimatter device in the capital city, instantly killing millions of people. The planetary defense computer was damaged by the blast and went on a rampage, destroying anything in orbit of the planet. Centaurus struggled in the aftermath to recover and the intervention of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) finally resolved the situation. As a result, new efforts were emplaced to detect antimatter in public places and at starports, and planetary defenses across the Federation were also updated.

Ceta (planet): Located in the Dubhe System (124 light years from Earth) this M-class planet was discovered by Centauran scout Geran'nus Mett in pre-Federation days (2122 AD). However the all out Earth-Romulan War halted Centauran expansion, but eventually the planet Ceta was colonized by Centaurans in 2189. Later a crisis erupted in 2367 AD when four Romulan warbirds were destroyed in the Dubhe System; their interference in the internal squabbles of the Dubhe worlds nearly caused a Federation-wide civil war, but calmer heads prevailed and the situation was resolved by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) and USS Zeus (NCC-4466). Ceta's current population is over a billion Centaurans; it is a jumbo-sized world that is nearly twice the size of Earth.

Chalder (race): this immense race of sentient beings lives solely under water and known as a "benthic species". They allied early on with the Second Federation, becoming important trading partners, mainly selling in seafood to  Starfleet/Deneb. They are friendly, telepathic, and most are philosophers.

Chalderescol (planet): located in the Deneb region, this immense waterworld is the homeworld of the Chalder alien race. It was a part of the Second Federation and later the United Federation of Planets.

Chaltok: a important Romulan world located in the Iconia Sector, it was also the regional capital. It was the site of a major battle during the Resolute War, one which the Romulans lost.

Chancellor Gowron: Gowron, son of M'Rel, was Chancellor of the Klingon High Council in the late 24th century. He ruled during the Klingon Civil War, Klingon-Cardassian War, and the Dominion War. He was killed by the klingon Worf in 2375. Before 2367, Gowron was a political outsider, who often challenged the decisions of the Klingon High Council. After the death of Chancellor K'mpec, Gowron and Duras, son of Ja'rod, became the two leading candidates for leadership of the council. It was suspected that Gowron had in fact poisoned K'mpec to advance his career, though many believe that K'mpec was indeed poisoned by Duras. Once Duras was killed by Worf through the Right of Vengeance, Gowron's election as chancellor was complete. Following Gowron's election, Duras's sisters, Lursa and B'Etor, challenged Gowron's office. They appealed to the High Council to install Toral, the illegitimate son of Duras, as Chancellor. The resulting division of loyalty in the council quickly sparked the Klingon Civil War in late 2367. After a few weeks, Gowron's forces emerged victorious. With the help of the Federation, Duras's family ties with the Romulan Star Empire were exposed. In the aftermath of the war, Gowron found it was best to avoid calling attention to the Federation's support during the war. He ordered that all official accounts of the events omit the Federation's involvement in the conflict and emphasize his own courage and strategic genius. When a clone of Kahless the Unforgettable was created in 2369, Gowron dismissed his right to rule the Empire, though he soon became worried that the clone's existence would plunge the Klingon Empire into another civil war. In order to keep the peace, he agreed to support Kahless as the spiritual leader of his people, agreeing to support his succession as "Emperor" (the title having been defunct for generations), while Gowron would remain leader of the Council.

As the cold war between the Dominion and the Alpha Quadrant escalated during the 2370s, Gowron took prominent Klingon General Martok as his military adviser. Martok had secretly been replaced by a Changeling, and used his position to influence Gowron's military decisions. When a civilian revolt took over Cardassia Prime in 2372, Martok spread misinformation that the Cardassian uprising had been supported by the Dominion. This view gained some credence as it fit the Founders' modus operandi, since they regularly made use of infiltrators to weaken their enemies. Martok led Gowron to believe that the civilian-led Detapa Council had been replaced by Changelings. Seeking to protect the Empire, Gowron ordered the invasion of the Cardassian Union. The move was condemned by the Federation Council, and Gowron withdrew from the Khitomer Accords, ending the decades-long alliance with the Federation. The Klingons conquered a number of Cardassian colonies but failed to take capital-world Cardassia Prime. Gowron declared victory anyway. He fortified Klingon positions in Cardassian space and continued expanding the borders of the Empire. He also ordered several attacks on Romulan targets on the Klingon-Romulan border.

In late 2372, Gowron demanded that the Federation withdraw from the Archanis sector, in particular Archanis IV. During this time, the Dominion planted false information in Starfleet through Odo that Gowron, not Martok, was a Changeling spy. Starfleet sent a team to Klingon military headquarters on Ty'Gokor to expose Gowron. Eventually they discovered that Martok was, in fact, the Changeling agent, and Gowron's men swiftly killed it. After the Cardassians joined the Dominion in 2373, the Klingon forces were driven from Cardassian space. Facing the combined forces of the Dominion and Cardassia, Gowron reinstated the Khitomer Accords and posted a permanent contingent of Klingon officers on the Cardassian border at station Deep Space 9, commanded, ironically, by the real Martok. In early 2374, Gowron was reluctant to involve the Empire in Operation Return. However, he was later persuaded to assist Captain Sisko's forces by Martok and Worf. The late arrival of the Klingon fleet proved critical in the battle, throwing the Dominion lines into disarray and allowed the Defiant to break through. In addition, Gowron played a role, albeit unknowingly, in bringing the Romulan Star Empire into the war against the Dominion.

During the Dominion War, general Martok's actions made him a prominent figure throughout the Empire, such that he was regarded by the Klingon people as their savior. Feeling threatened by Martok's growing political influence, Gowron took direct control of the Klingon Defense Force in 2375. He began trying to undermine Martok's military standing, repeatedly sending him against impossible odds so that he would be forced to retreat. Martok refused to challenge Gowron even after such dishonorable actions, believing it would be tantamount to turning against the Empire. Instead Gowron was challenged by a member of Martok's house, Worf. Worf, who had been subtly directed by Captain Sisko to have Gowron removed as Chancellor, defeated Gowron in one-on-one combat, killing him, and passed the leadership of the High Council to Martok. Despite his disapproval of Gowron's actions, Worf still performed the Klingon death ritual for him, acknowledging the former Chancellor as a Klingon warrior.

Chlorzhi (race): A bipedal species that was conquered by the Romulans generations ago, their homeworld has become a UFP Protectorate now that the Resolute War has ended.

Chlorzhi Homeworld (planet): A habitable world located deep within the former Romulan Empire; now a Federation Protectorate. It is the homeworld of the alien Chlorzhi race.

Chodak (race): The Chodak are an ancient alien race that has inhabited part of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy for over a million years. They are powerful, arrogant, and virtually unstoppable. Approximately four thousand years ago, their mighty empire finally collapsed when a group of rebels sabotaged their greatest technological achievement - the Unity Device. After these chains of events, the Chodak declined as a civilization and were eventually considered extinct in later centuries; the Vedalans may have had a part in their ultimate demise. Some of their territory was claimed by the Romulan Star Empire but the Chodak eventually made a re-emergence in 2311 (searching for the Unity Device) though many were unaware of their activity in the galaxy. They began an all-out war with the Romulans, forcing the pointy-eared aliens to virtually abandoned contact with the rest of the galaxy to fight this extinction-level war with the Chodak, which finally ended in 2364 in the Romulans' favor.

Cloaking Technology (Federation): The first creation of "cloaking technology" was said to be done by the Romulans, but it fact they had discovered an ancient starship that had the tech built into it, and they were eventually able to reverse engineer it. Adding the ability to "cloak" entire starships in space created a massive advantage for the Romulan Star Empire and when they eventually went to war with the Earth Union, humans saw the incredible effects of sneak attacks using this military technology. Later, when the United Federation of Planets was formed, several different groups within the Federation tried to create cloaking technology, or buy it from the Klingons, who had purchased it previously from the Romulans. All efforts by the UFP failed until 2358 AD when a secret project was funded by the Head of Starfleet Intelligence, Admiral Marla Rice. The development of cloaking technology was expressly forbidden by the Treaty of Algeron, a document signed by both the Federation and the Romulans, and while government organizations like Starfleet were unable to create cloaking technology, civilian and independent governments and organizations were not so handicapped. Using several front organizations, Admiral Rice was able to fund and eventually create "phased cloaking technology", with the ability to move through solid matter as well as remain invisible. This form of cloak was far superior to anything the Romulans or the Klingons had ever developed. The test-bed for this illegal technology was placed aboard the USS Pegasus (a Oberth-class science vessel) but the project stalled when the ship was destroyed during the first tests. Later, remnants of the USS Pegasus were discovered by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701D) and the cloaking apparatus was recovered. It was stored at Starbase 18 (Hamal) until the outbreak of the Resolute War, when additional units were produced and emplaced aboard specialized Federation starships. The all-out war between the Federation and their Klingon allies against the Romulans nullified the Treaty of Algeron, enabling Starfleet to build its own phased cloaking starships. These vessels were critical in the later defeat of the Dominion and Starfleet Command continues to use this phased cloaking technology on specific warships to this day.

Copernicus Fleetyard at Luna (Sol): This major UFP shipyard has built many different classes of starships for Starfleet and the Federation and is considered a "reserve yard" for times of war. Located adjacent to the Federation Fleet Museum at Luna (Sol).

Coridan System: This system has four inhabited worlds, all of which are under one government. Coridan III, IV, and VII are inhabited, while Coridan IX is a Federation dilithium mining station. The Coridan System is the richest source of dilithium crystals within the Federation. A single star system (Yellow Star), the system has ten planets.

Crisis of 2286: An alien probe of unknown origin visited the Earth in 2286. It was returning to Earth after a millennia, seeking to contact members of the humpback whale species. After disabling Spacedock and the prototype USS Excelsior, the Probe settled over the planet and directed its transmissions towards its oceans. The sheer amount of energy contained in the broadcast began to vaporize Earth's oceans and ionize the atmosphere, creating a catastrophically thick cloud layer over the entire planet. Destroying the probe proved impossible, as any vessel that went anywhere near it immediately lost power. As all planetary power sources began to fail, the Federation President was forced to send out a planetary distress signal. Starfleet commander Captain James Kirk determined that the only way to stop the probe was to find some humpback whales who could answer it. Consequently, a captured Klingon bird-of-prey was taken into the past via a slingshot effect around Earths' sun, and successfully retrieved two of the species from 1986. Returning to the time shortly after the probe's arrival in 2286, the two whales were able to respond to the probe's call, it then departed for an unknown destination, restoring power to the vessels it disabled along the way. The whale probe had crippled Earths' defenses, teaching the Federation an important lesson. NOTE: the book has a great deal more information on who sent the probe, buy it!

Curry-class starship (UFP): Another remarkably successful vessel to be fielded with Excelsior saucers was the Curry-class "carrier", a smallcraft toting starship that was first made at the Ceta Shipyards (the Dubhe System) and in orbit of the planet Militar. The vessel was built with extensive shuttlebay facilities which allowed the vessel to act as a fighter carrier or as an assault ship. Until the Curry was conceived by Vice Admiral Daniel Heller of Starfleet Construction, the Federation had rarely ever had a starship solely dedicated to fighter and shuttle support operations. In fact, until recently Starfleet had no small-scale craft that was capable of surviving in a warzone until the last decade or so. The Curry-class starship was designed to carry several fighter wings and its personnel for operations without the support abilities of a nearby starbase. In design the Curry lacked a great deal of defense and offensive abilities, meaning other ships needed to be assigned to protect it. When the Resolute War began, six additional Excelsior-class saucers were quickly mated to a standardized hull and they were sent to the front lines as forward-operating fleet support vessels. The Curry's also saw extensive service in the Dominion War with heavy casualties. These carriers will be eventually be discontinued and the remaining vessels will be decommissioned at the end of their service lives. At the start of the Dominion War there were 210 Curry-class vessels, at its close there were just 96 remaining in service.

Daa'Vit Assembly: A small militant empire located near Klingon space, these humanoids have waged an on-again off-again war with their bumpy-headed neighbors for 300 years. Located between UFP space and the Klingon Empire.

Daniel Heller (Vice Admiral): Vice Admiral Daniel Heller of Starfleet Construction was the senior project manager for developing the Federations' first truly independent warp-capable "carrier" starship. He was a human born on the planet Izar and had a successful career in Starfleet, eventually retiring from the service in 2420 AD.

Danube-class smallcraft (UFP): The Danube-class Runabouts were a type of Federation smallcraft in operation during the latter half of the 24th century. It was first commissioned by Starfleet in 2368 AD for use as a light multipurpose craft in situations that demanded a vessel more capable than a standard shuttlecraft, but lower profile than a full-sized starship. With this flexibility, a runabout could be utilized as a long-range personnel and cargo transport, an agile mobile defense platform, or a high-speed reconnaissance vehicle. Since its inception, the runabout remained the primary method of transport and defense support for Starfleet Command. The runabouts were instrumental in discovering many new worlds and civilizations within the Gamma Quadrant, as well as the Bajoran wormhole itself and they were also utilized in fighting off Maquis raiders. The most innovative feature that made the runabout possible was its compact, high-performance warp propulsion system. Runabouts were designed to have a maximum speed of warp 5. Their overall width was 14 meters. The Danube-class runabouts were also equipped with an aft tractor beam emitter. This emitter could be used to tow starships at least as large as a Galor-class. It was also capable of being rigged to tow at warp velocities. Finally, the Yellowstone-class was an upgrade to the Danube-class.

Dark Matter Warheads (2 UFP): developed using Ian technology, these ultra-deadly weapons began being used on Second Federation starships as they explored the region around Deneb. They were successfully used against the Primmasaur Empire several times and later adopted by Starfleet once the Second Federation rejoined the UFP. Dark matter warheads cause tremendous damage and a single warhead can destroy an entire planet. These deadly weapons have not been shared with the Klingon Empire or any other Federation allied state. The production site for these deadly WMD weapons is highly classified, but surely located within Federation space.

D'armok-class starship (Romulan): a destroyer developed by the Star Empire late in the Resolute War, it was effective on the battlefield but lacked cloaking technology. Several hundred of these smaller, cheaper vessels were built before the Romulans surrendered to the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets.

Dasin II (2 UFP): This rich world was clearly terraformed, most likely by the Planet-Maker and is habitable to nearly all humanoids. It was colonized by Second Federation crews and became a major Deltan colony a dozen years later, and Bynars and Bajorans have also flocked to this world. Dasin II produces an large amount of trade goods and is an excellent market world. It is located a little over 100 light years from Akwaterra.

D'deridex-class starship: The D'deridex-class (or B-type or Warbird-class) battleship was the pride of the Romulan fleet in the mid-to-late 24th century. The class was named after Romulan Praetor D'deridex, who held office during the late 22nd century. This warship was designed to be larger than any Federation or Klingon vessel of the time. It was extremely successful and soon found itself making up the bulk of the Imperial Romulan Fleet. D'deridex-class vessels represented the Romulan Star Empire in numerous incidents and historical events and the class participated in many engagements in the Dominion War. The D'deridex-Advanced was a variant of the basic D'deridex-class starship. These ships were upgraded at Orias III by the Tal Shiar and joined with Cardassian Keldon-class ships for an invasion of Dominion territory in the year 2371. Vessels of this class were still being constructed in the late 2370s, before being phased out in favor of the smaller but more powerful Valdore-class warbirds in the 2380s. Like most Romulan vessels of the 24th century, the D'deridex-class was powered utilizing an artificial quantum singularity and was fitted with a cloaking device. At one time, it was believed these vessels only carried a crew of around 600 Romulans, however the actual crew complement was 1,500 officers and crew, plus troops. The D'deridex-class are some of the most powerful (and deadly) warships in the galaxy, easily able to destroy most other vessels it runs across.

Declan Keogh (Commodore): A human born on Earth in 2320 AD, he joined Starfleet early on and became a Captain in that organization in 2364. He rose to the rank of Commodore and commanded several battle groups during the Resolute War, and later Dominion War primarily from his command ship the Galaxy-class USS Odyssey (NCC-71832). He later retired to the Jenolan Dyson Sphere in the Federation Annex in 2422. His successful battle tactics are still required reading to this day for students joining Starfleet Command.

Defiant-class starship (UFP): The Defiant (officially an escort vessel) began development in 2366 as a small, highly powered, heavily armed warship intended to defend the United Federation of Planets against the Borg. The Defiant was the first true warship Starfleet ever designed. It was developed in response to the Borg threat as originally encountered at System J-25 in 2365. After initial and hostile first contact with the Borg, Starfleet did what it hadn't done in decades, place greater emphasis on defense of the Federation. Drafting plans for such a defense required a starship(s) capable of fighting against the Borg. Further verified after the Federation's devastating defeat in the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2366 losing 39 ships and 11,000 personnel to just a single Borg vessel. This disaster proved the Federation's defenses were woefully inadequate to sustain a major military or defense campaign with their present fleet. With the knowledge that existing weaponry and defenses would be inadequate to meet this threat, it was recognized that a new type of starship was needed to meet the tactical requirements of facing this superior enemy. The USS Defiant (built at Utopia Planitia Yards) was the prototype of what was to be a new Federation battle fleet. However, the ship had numerous design problems that were made apparent during its shakedown cruise. These flaws, combined with the decreased urgency of the Borg threat, caused Starfleet to table its plans for a battle fleet and put the Defiant in storage. The Defiant prototype was pulled out of storage in 2368 when the Resolute War began and performed admirably throughout the conflict. Nearly one hundred were built during the war and later served in the battles of the Dominion War.

Delta (UFP planet): A major UFP shipbuilding center and homeworld of the sexually advanced Deltan bipedal species, it was also one of the early members of the United Federation of Planets.

Deltans (race): The Deltans are a humanoid species originating from the Federation planet Delta IV, and compared to most other aliens they are hairless. Deltans are widely known as great jewelry makers: their jewelry is sold throughout the galaxy and is very popular. Delta IV joined the Federation in 2223, the year the Deltans became warp-capable. The Deltan race is much older than Humans, with brains much more finely evolved in areas of art and mathematics. Federation contact teams also suggested that esper abilities were common to the Deltans living on their homeworld and that, in their culture, virtually everything (i.e. all social interaction) was sex-oriented, with sexual foreplay consisting "largely of lovers placing images in each other's minds". Deltans value and delight in emotion – they see emotion as one of the myriad delights of being a life form. They are a sensual race – they enjoy the sensation of feeling hunger and fulfilling appetite in every form from satisfying their palates with exquisite foods, to the caress of a warm breeze or the bite of a bitter wind, the touch of an infant's hand, and especially all the shared communications and physical sensations of acts of love. Along its path to individual awareness, all the five (perhaps six) senses of the Deltan become highly acute and sensitive. Their taste buds, the rods and cones of their inner eyes, even their smallest epidermal nerve ending, all are sensitive far beyond the Human norm. The same UFP teams also mentioned historical similarities between the civilizations of Earth and the Deltan homeworld and that the Deltans "long ago lost their interest in space voyaging (concentrating on their own inner-space). So what makes Deltans so interesting to other species? Admiral Eric Longfellow stated in his First Contact Report on the Deltans: "Sex with a Deltan woman is like nirvana. After that no man can be satisfied with anyone else. The Deltan woman is so sophisticated sexually that any contact with a Human man would drive him insane. It's wonderful".

Delta Stromgren System (2 UFP): a immense hypergiant star located within Second Federation space, it is used (along with the star Deneb) as an interstellar beacon for long-range travel. An uninhabited star system.

Delta Triangle: The Delta Triangle is a uninhabited sector is space where a high number of mysterious disappearances of starships that has been recorded since ancient times by all star-faring civilizations of the galaxy. Vessels operated by Andorians, Tellarites, Klingons, Kzinti, Orions, Vulcans, Romulans, Humans, Phylosians, and Gorn became lost in the Delta Triangle. Located between Kessik, Bellatrix, and FGC-82659, its appearance is marked by a phantom sparkling nebula. In 2269 the UFP starship USS Enterprise was sent to investigate the phenomena. The Klingon Empire was discovered to be using the lore of the Delta Triangle to attack Federation vessels. The area is a interspatial sink where time moves at a much slower pace. Hundreds of interstellar ships have been trapped within this region but the USS Enterprise and a Klingon warship (the IKS Klothos) were able to escape. The survivors inside the trap joined peacefully to form the Elysian Council. The region is a "disputed sector", and that exclusive exploration rights are still being contested by the Klingons under the Organian Peace Treaty.

Deneb Kaitos System: There are three inhabited worlds in the Deneb System, all of which have evolved intelligent life (Deneb II has evolved two intelligent species). Deneb II is the homeworld of the Deirr and the !'hew, population 1.8 billion. The Eyren inhabit Deneb IV, as do 170,000 human colonists. The Klaha inhabit Deneb V, population of 20 billion plus another 7 billion system wide. Deneb III is class-M (a waterworld) and currently has no inhabitants. Five planets circle the star Deneb Kaitos, a yellow star and a binary system. All inhabited planets are high-gravity environments.

Deneb Station (UFP): an immense Federation space station that is located halfway point down the Deneb Arm. This station resupplies colonists all across the region and is located in the Bolbod Sector.

Deneb Arm (star/region): After discovering the remnants of Task Force 12 near the star Deneb (in 2394 AD), the United Federation of Planets began a colonization campaign to connect the Second Federation to itself. War-weary colonists flooded the new colonization zone and the area around Deneb itself, growing the population on Akwaterra a hundred times what it initially was. Luckily, the Deneb Arm of the Federation did not coincide with any other interstellar power, nor was any discovered as the Federation grew the Arm. After 100 years of continual growth the entire area became a rich, stable part of the Federation and eventually the original Second Federation area became a populous and expanding 500 light year colonization zone, centered on the star Deneb.

Deneva-class starship (UFP): a large cargo ship used by the United Federation of Planets to move large cargo and colonist support items across space. More than 80 were built and a few are still in use to this day.

Denobula Prime (UFP planet): This world is a M-class planet and the sole planet in its system, and is located in the Alpha Quadrant. It is the homeworld of the Denobulan race and a member of the United Federation of Planets.

Denobulans (race): Denobulans are a humanoid race that has joined the United Federation of Planets; this alien homeworld is less than 50 light years from Earth. As of the mid-2150s, the Denobulan inhabitants on their planet numbered twelve billion, all of whom shared one continent. Consequently, living space was at a premium and Denobulan culture had come to embrace close, communal lifestyles, although this habitation arrangement was due to choice, rather than necessity. Family relations on Denobula could be extremely complicated. Unlike Klingons, Denobulans didn't group themselves into Houses. They typically prefer to be among large groups and find solitude uncomfortable. However, Denobulans (at least males) are uncomfortable being touched by persons they were not intimate with and they are typically polyamorous, where a man typically had three wives, who each had three husbands. This creates extremely large extended families; a Starfleet doctor Phlox once said he had 720 familial relationships, 42 with sexual possibilities. In addition, Denobulan marriages are not exclusive, and married Denobulans can be intimate with anyone they chose. Denobulans are typically very patient. The species was renowned for having this quality in abundance. Though typically embracing a full range of emotions, Denobulans seemed to highly value optimism and cheerfulness. They could also be deceitful and their temper was sometimes furious. Denobulans appeared to possess particularly powerful immune systems; when doctor Phlox was nearly assimilated by the Borg about the early USS Enterprise, his immune system was able to fight off the nanoprobes long enough for him to find a means of destroying them, although he admitted that his immune system would not be able to hold them off indefinitely. Denobulan life spans are extremely long, though a Denobulan elder does not necessarily look particularly old. Doctor Phlox, in the 22nd century, once stated that his grandmother lived through the last of numerous wars Denobula fought with the Antarans, a conflict which ended while Earth was in the 19th century. This indicates that at least three generations of Denobulans had existed during the three-hundred-year span between the events. During the early Earth-Romulan War, a Romulan force attacked Denobula and its orbiting spaceport in 2158. The ambush resulted in over three million casualties and intimidated Denobula, causing it to refrain from supporting the Coalition of Planets during the Earth-Romulan War

Dimorus Sector (Romulan): a long-colonized region of the Romulan Empire, this sector is located at the core of the Empire and saw some of the heaviest fighting during the Resolute War. The Klingon Empire has occupied the area and is keeping its Romulan inhabitant under their thumb.

D'Korin-class starship (Klingon): A advanced battleship first built during the Resolute War (by the House of Torm, this battle-proven warship was later one of the first in the Klingon Imperial Navy to receive transwarp drive.

Dominion, the: The Dominion is a major interstellar state in the Gamma Quadrant that is over 10,000 years old. Technologically advanced and millennia old, the Dominion was founded under the absolute rule of a group of Changelings known as the Founders, whose will was carried out by the Vorta and the Jem'Hadar. The Dominion was dedicated to imposing the Founders' vision of "order" upon the universe, i.e. bringing all other civilizations under its control. By the mid-24th century, the Dominion had conquered hundreds of species. In the 2370s, the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole brought the Dominion into contact with civilizations in the Alpha Quadrant. The Founders then initiated long-term plans to weaken and subvert the Alpha Quadrant. In 2373, the Dominion was able to secure both the wormhole passage and a power base in the Alpha Quadrant, through the absorption of the Cardassian Union. By the end of the year, open war erupted between the Dominion and a joint opposition consisting of the United Federation of Planets and the enlarged Klingon Empire. Despite various reversals and an eleventh-hour alliance with the Breen Confederacy, by early 2376, the Dominion verged on defeat and was additionally beset by a Cardassian uprising. The war ended when the Female Changeling agreed to surrender, in exchange for a cure to a morphogenic virus afflicting the Great Link and the Dominion forces retreating back into the Gamma Quadrant.

D'Roviss-class starship (Romulan): This destroyer-class of warship was built by the Romulan Star Empire during the Resolute War and over 500 were built before the Empire collapsed under the invasion of the joint Federation-Klingon Alliance. It was easily constructed built and very effective in the battlefield against Alliance warships, but it was not made with a cloaking device which severely limited its tactical options.

Dubhe Crisis of 2367 AD: An emergency military situation in the Dubhe System sparked by Romulan interference, it was solved by the intervention of the USS Zeus (NCC-4466), Starfleet's newest dreadnought, and the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701D). The Dubhe System is located deep in Federation space 125 light years from Earth. The critical situation arose when the insane Warlord of Han Kao opened fire on all spacecraft orbiting within the Dubhe System. This incident crippled the Excelsior-class starship USS Fearless (NCC-4598) that was patrolling the region and killed over 200,000 civilians across the star system. The Warlord further threatened to fire his more powerful "warp torpedoes" at the other member planets. The new dreadnought USS Zeus and the USS Enterprise were rushed to the scene in an effort to avoid civil war within the Federation and Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Captain Ryan Farris (of the USS Zeus) discovered the Romulans were behind the plot after four warbirds decloaked and opened fire at the height of the crisis. In the ensuing conflict both Starfleet vessels were badly damaged but they won the battle.

Dubhe System (UFP system): A four-star system with 9 inhabited planets, the Dubhe System is now a major UFP shipbuilding center with a population of 8 billion people. Seven planets in this system were terraformed (and abandoned) by an advanced race even before the Federation was formed. Since the early days of the Federation, planets in this system have been colonized by various Federation races, including humans, Centaurans, Vulcans, and Tellarites.

Enterprise NCC-1701C: this starship was a 24th century Federation Ambassador-class vessel operated by Starfleet. It was the fourth Federation starship to bear the name Enterprise. In 2344, Captain Rachel Garrett served as the ship's commanding officer. That same year  the Enterprise responded to a distress call from the Klingon outpost on Narendra III, which was under attack by the Romulan Star Empire. When the Enterprise arrived at the outpost, she was engaged by four Romulan warbirds. The ship suffered major damage to her warp nacelles and external hull, with 125 crew members surviving. During the firefight, a temporal rift was created. The ship entered it and, almost instantly, emerged from it. The Enterprise-C returned at the same time that it left its timeline. It was engaged by the Romulans and was eventually destroyed. In the aftermath of the battle, the Klingons were deeply impressed by the act of self-sacrifice by a Starfleet crew to protect a Klingon outpost, and the Enterprise's ultimate legacy was reinforcing the relations between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets, leading to a close alliance of peace.

Enterprise NCC-1701D: The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) was a 24th century Federation Galaxy-class starship operated by Starfleet, and the fifth Federation ship to bear that name. During her career, the ship served as the Federation flagship. It was built at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards orbiting Mars in the Sol system. The construction was a massive undertaking, involving thousands of people across disciplines. On stardate 40759.5, in the year 2363, the Enterprise was launched from Mars. On stardate 41025.5, the ship was commissioned. The Enterprise-D made first official contact with a number of species, including the dangerous and near-omnipotent Q race. The crew of the ship had many adventures, troubleshooting problems across the United Federation of Planets. In 2364 the Enterprise was hijacked from Starbase 74 by the Bynars, but was later restored to Starfleet control. They also encountered the Borg, twice, and took part in the defense of Earth against the first Borg attack on that planet in 2366 AD. The Enterprise was also the command ship in Captain Picard's ad-hoc armada which blockaded Romulan assistance to the House of Duras during the Klingon Civil War, coordinating a tachyon detection grid which was used to detect cloaked Romulan ships from crossing the border. The Enterprise also struck a quantum filament in early 2368, causing a loss of all power aboard ship and severe damage to most systems: antimatter containment was nearly compromised but fortunately repairs were made before the ship was destroyed. Also in 2368, the Enterprise and its crew were trapped in a temporal causality loop near the Typhon Expanse. Each cycle ended in a catastrophic collision with the USS Bozeman, destroying both ships. Feelings of déjà vu allowed the Enterprise crew to gather clues which allowed them to send a message into the next loop and avoid the collision. The ship spent a total of 17.4 days repeating the same interval of time. The Enterprise was one of the first Starfleet vessels to dock at the newly-commissioned Deep Space 9, where she offloaded most of the station's Starfleet contingent, and its first complement of runabouts. The Enterprise was later destroyed during the Battle of Nelvana III in 2368 AD, sparking the Resolute War.

Erumet System (Romulan): In 2368 AD the Romulan Star Empire went to war against the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets (the Resolute War) and one of the first battles took place in the Erumet System, a Romulan world located on the border of Klingon space. It was here that the joint alliance forces first ran into the heavy system defense "Monitors" that the Romulans had constructed for just such an attack. Although badly mauled by the substantially-armed and armored Star Empire warships, the Alliance prevailed in Erumet and continued their attacks deeper and deeper into Romulan territory

Fifth Generation Shields (Barclay's Bubble): A powerful new computer program was developed for Starfleet by Ensign Reginald Barclay during a encounter with an alien probe aboard the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701D). It increased standard starship shields by over 300% but required significant warp engine power to sustain the strength of this field, and as a result it cannot be formed while travelling at warp speeds. During the Resolute War, these advanced shields were adopted across the Federation and saved countless lives. A new UFP colony in the Deneb Arm was named after Ensign Barclay, the planet "Reginald".

Formahaut: A mixed Federation colony of 210 million, Formahaut has is a parliamentary republic. An Associate Member of the Federation, Formahaut has several asteroid belts rich in corbanite, dilithium, and deuterium. A single star system, Formahaut is the third of nine planets and is 28 lyrs from Earth. The star Formahaut is known as the "Solitary One".

Galor IV (UFP): This world was the fourth planetary body within the star system that consisted of nine that orbited a red dwarf star. The system was situated at least within a ten light year radius of Deneb. Its surface was a harsh and lifeless habitat with an unbreathable atmosphere consisting of numerous gases as well as never ending storms that plague it. Whilst harsh, this rocky world was rich in common industrial minerals that made Galor IV was a useful colony for mining and trade. It also meant that it was also self sufficient allowing for numerous facilities to be constructed by the planets resources alone. It later held a Starfleet facility which was mainly devoted to cybernetics, robotics, defense issues, archaeology and computer science. In 2382, Starfleet (via Admiral Owen Paris) ordered the USS Voyager's holographic Doctor's mobile emitter transferred there, but a lawsuit and injunction prevented this from happening during that year. With the acceptance of a Starfleet commission and rank in 2395, The Doctor took an assignment on Galor IV that also allowed the Starfleet Corps of Engineers to study the emitter. Galor IV has a population of slightly over 600,000 Federation citizens, the planet has no moons, and it is located near Cardassian space.

Gamma Dolphi (UFP planet): A waterworld located in UFP space but near the Romulan Neutral Zone, it has extensive dilithium deposits and a thriving multi-racial Federation colony under the surface waters of the planet.

Gasko Sector (Romulan): The site of early fighting during the outbreak of the Resolute War, this sector of space was completely controlled by the Romulan Star Empire and it had a large population. Klingon forces eventually overran the region and it remains under their control to this day.

Geneva: An ancient city located on Earth (in Europe), it is the Federation capital but Starfleet Command is in San Francisco (in North America).

Goksun System (Romulan): Located in the Narendra Sector of the former Romulan Empire, this world was one of the first to be attacked in the devastating Resolute War. It is currently occupied by Klingons as a trusteeship; 8 million Romulans live on the planet.

Golden (UFP planet): Located in the Dubhe System, this world is only partially habitable and is the home of the genetically engineered human sub-race created during Earths' Eugenics Wars. Although the planet is an Associate Member of the Federation, these so-called "Khan people" rarely leave their world and interact with outsiders due to their militant beliefs in their superiority.

Grengrak V (Romulan): Located in the Narendra Sector of the former Romulan Empire, this world was one of the first to be attacked in the devastating Resolute War. It is currently occupied by Klingons as a trusteeship; 11 million Romulans live on the planet.

Halstansir (2 UFP): This planet has a rich, organic soil that is far more productive than any other known planet. Second Federation colonists landed here and began building cities, but it later became a major Bolian population center once contact was re-established with the original Federation. This star system is located within 100 light years from the giant star Deneb.

Han Kao (planet): The capital world of the Warlord, this partially habitable planet is located in the Dubhe System and has a population of several hundred million humans. It is located within Federation space but is not a member of the UFP.

Harn (UFP planet): A jumbo-sized class-M world located in the Deneb Arm, this new Federation colony world is also the sector capital and is a major colonization zone for Centaurans. It is also the center of Starfleet explorations in the Harn Sector, a region with hundreds of unexplored planets as well as the First Contact site for the Lanihan and Kren races. The planet Harn is 4 times larger than Earth but it has the same gravity due to an unusual planetary core.

Harn Sector (UFP): A part of the "Deneb Arm" that connects the original UFP to the 2nd Federation, this undercolonized region has several hundred unexplored stars in it. This part of space is only used to transit to and from the Deneb sector, but eventually Starfleet will get around to surveying the various worlds and cultures in the area. The primary Federation world in this sector is a beautiful habitable world named Harn, a UFP colony with over a million new citizens.

Harpoon (UFP planet): Located in the Second Federation region, Harpoon is a enormous ocean-world is also the location of a brand new thriving multicultural Federation colony. The sea life on this world is incredibly diverse and visually stunning.

H'atoria Sector (Romulan): A low-populated Romulan sector of space adjacent to "the Triangle", this are was rapidly conquered by the Klingons and 95% of its Rom civilian population was eliminated by the aggressive Klingon invaders during the Resolute War.

Hetharri (planet): located in the Second Federation colonization zone near the giant star Deneb, this is an artificial world built by the Planet-Maker. It is three times the size of Earth but has the same gravity. Hetharri has become a major colonization hotspot since the Second Federation joined with the UFP.

Hobus Supernova: The hypergiant star Hobus was located in the Beta Quadrant's Devron sector, less than 100 light-years from Romulus, in the outermost reaches of the Romulan Star Empire and it was one of the oldest stars in the galaxy. During the Resolute War, a Klingon torpedo was detonated inside the star, exploding in a supernova which threatened the galaxy. Within hours of the Hobus star exploding the effects propagating through subspace at multiwarp speeds, destroying the planets Romulus and Remus. This brought about the effective end to the Resolute War. More than 30 billion Romulan civilians were killed in this attack. The supernova left behind the parsecs-deep, amber-hued Hobus Nebula and at the center of the nebula, the Hobus stellar remnant (known as the Hobus Cinder) is still active and can be seen pulsing through the nebula gasses

Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development: This theory began when several worlds were discovered within Federation space that appeared to look exactly like Humanity's homeworld, and were inhabited by humans. The first discovered was Miri's World, located 163 light years from Earth by the UFP starship USS Enterprise. These planets were initially called "Mirror Earths", which was a world that were an exact duplicated of Earth, from the oceans to the continents right down to the rivers and forests of each region. The discovery of these unique worlds shook the Federation scientific community to its core and for years a heated debate raged over the significance of such a "duplicate planet". Finally, an eccentric galactic theorist (Dr. A.E. Hodgkin) wrote a compelling paper about the existence of these "Mirror Worlds", including the latest once discovered again by the Starfleet vessel USS Enterprise, the planet Magna Roma (located 288 light years from Earth). Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development became the prevailing answer to these carbon copy planets. During the next 100 years the Federation officially absorbed Miri's World into its polity, colonizing the planet with tens of millions of humans from the original Earth: the new inhabitants in turn helped the Miri's World children build their own human society. Eventually, Magna Roma also joined the Federation as a new member. Over the course of several hundred years, at least a half dozen different "Mirror Earths" have been identified within Federation Space and the source of these modified worlds was finally found: a huge planetary terraforming machine that was capable of interstellar travel, the Planet-Maker. When first discovered near the star Deneb, this immense machine was clearly made by the Preservers (also known as the Originators). This gigantic planet-sized machine-ship was inert when first found but Second Federation scientists were eventually able to get it operational and finished work on the nearby Mirror Earth planet known as Uelterra. When ultimately absorbed into the UFP, the Second Federation leaders passed ownership over to the Federation Council, who continued to use it to terraform additional worlds in and around Deneb. This machine proved, subsequently, the mistake in the validity of the paper of Hodgkin's Parallel Planetary Development and it was discarded soon after. See Miri's World, Magna Roma, Selva, Uelterra, Tromph, New Earth, and Bradley's World for more.

Holoban System (Romulan): located in the Romulan Narendra Sector, this heavily populated world was attacked by the Klingon Empire during the Resolute War. The world took heavy damage during the invasion and is still occupied by them to this day. It was the first important target taken by the Klingons at the outbreak of the war.

Hooper (planet): a class-M world located in the Deneb Arm, this world is the regional capital for the sector and is a prime destination for new colonists in the area. Hooper has immense oceans covering much of its surface but its diverse aquatic life is a major draw for tourists and colonists alike.

Hooper Sector (UFP): Part of the Federation "Arm" that connects the core worlds of the Federation to the Second Federation region. This area is a supersector, encompassing 36 sectors and several hundred star systems, most of which are currently unexplored. The sector capital is located on the unique world of Hooper, with a UFP support shipyard in orbit.

Hotep Sector (Romulan): a distant region of space located near the former Chodak Empire, its Romulan colonies were occupied by the Klingons during the Resolute War and remain under their control to this day.

Iconia Sector (Romulan): a fairly desolate sector of space located within the Romulan Empire, it fell to the joint invasion forces of the Klingons and Federation during the Resolute War and remains under Klingon control. This region was once the center of the Iconian Empire and a few of the remains from their hyper-technological empire are still around, being studied by many races.

IDIC Epidemic: In the year 2371 AD, with an ongoing war between the Alliance (the UFP and Klingon Empire) and the Romulan Empire, a virulent plague broke out on the multiracial colony of Nisus near the Neutral Zone. This bioweapon has been deployed secretly by the Romulans and it spread amongst a dozen different races, with only the Orions being immune from its effects. Federation races that had never before had any cross-species contamination were suddenly faced with a rapidly spreading life threatening flu-like illness. Vulcans, Humans, Andorians, Lemnorians, none were immune on the colony and they began to die in their thousands, and then tens of thousands in less than two months. By then it had spread to adjacent worlds as travelers and merchants moved from one planet to another, infecting 8 more colonies along the Neutral Zone. Normally such a virus cold only spread among races that had similar blood types, but this new disease easily propagated among nearly all exposed races and was dubbed "The IDIC Epidemic" by the general media. When the Federation Council discovered that the Romulans had deliberately released a wide-spectrum bioweapon against the Federation, went ballistic. The UFP openly accused the Romulan Empire of war crimes against civilians by deploying the weapon against the Federation, an accusation the Romulan Senate hotly denied. Infighting on Romulus brought the government down, the old Praetor was slain, and a new more hard line leadership came into power. Whatever the cause of the epidemic, it was clear among Federation authorities that a cure had to be found, especially when the death toll reached over 100,000 people in just 4 months. Travel to and from the infected sector was cut off to try and halt the spread of the virus and finally after months of research the scientists at Nisus found a cure: amazingly in a local Klingon family and a half-Romulan girl living at the colony.

IDIC: The Vulcan IDIC is an acronym for Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations, the basis of Vulcan philosophy, celebrating the vast array of variables in the universe. In the Vulcan language, the term for IDIC is "Kol-Ut-Shan". The IDIC emblem had come to be used as a Vulcan national emblem. It has also become a widely used concept across the entire Federation as a symbol of unity and acceptance among various races and cultures.

Illensa (planet): the homeworld of the Illensan race, this large gas giant is located in within the borders of the Second Federation, which later became part of the United Federation of Planets in 2395 AD. After that, the Illensans became Federation members.

Janus VI: a airless planetoid located in Federation space, this worldlet is the home of the rock-like Horta alien race. Janus VI orbits a K2III red giant star and includes a treasure-trove of mineral wealth, including huge deposits of pergium, uranium, platinum, cerium, and gold. The Tagger Pan-Galactic Mining corporation began mining the planetoid in 2210 AD, which lasted for 50 years without incident. Then in 2267 Ad a series of mysterious deaths of several miners were traced to a native sentient life form, the silicon-based Horta. Negotiations revealed that the Horta, a peaceful creature at heart, was willing to share the planetoid with the miners (and even aid in mining operations) provided that their eggs and offspring remained undisturbed. A treaty between the miners and Horta was agreed upon and the race joined the United Federation of Planets in 2360 AD. The Horta's taxonomic name is Janus hominidae.

Jav'tal-class starship (Klingon): first commissioned in 2369 AD, this Klingon bird-of-prey was built specifically for combat in the Resolute War and performed above expectations. A total of 345 were built, with 64 lost during the war. The vessels' cloaking device was upgraded during the Dominion War and it continues to be used by the Klingon Navy in 2345 AD.

Jenolan Dyson Sphere: Like the Solanae Dyson Sphere, the Jenolan Dyson Sphere was built by the Solanae, an Iconian servitor race, approximately 200,000 years ago. Both immense spheres were constructed as important military staging bases but the Iconians were eventually wiped out (probably by a virulent plague) and the Spheres' were later abandoned. Each Sphere was capable of many housing large armadas, able to sustain a vast civilian population, and could travel vast distances across the galaxy through subspace via a "jump" ability fueled by Omega Particles generated by the Sphere itself. The Jenolan Sphere is a gigantic object with a radius of approximately one astronomical unit (AU) into which the Starfleet vessel USS Jenolan crashed in the year 2294 AD. It was later re-discovered by the USS Enterprise-D in 2369 AD and explored by subsequent Starfleet expeditions over the following years. It is located in the Treva Sector (in the UFP Annex Region) and it has active connecting Iconian gateways to the Solonae Sphere located in the Delta Quadrant. The United Federation of Planets eventually laid claim to the Jenolan Dyson Sphere once Trill stellar-engineers were able to finally defuse the central stars' lethal radiation emissions. Considering it has the internal habitable surface area of over 250 million M-type planets, this Dyson Sphere became a rapidly growing colonization destination for the Federation from 2410 AD onward. The Jenolan Dyson Sphere is the final "redoubt" for Operation Omega. NOTE: In my timeline, the Jenolan Sphere does not jump deep into the Delta Quadrant but remains in the Treva Sector. A new interstellar route is discovered within it, leading to a second Dyson Sphere (the Solanae Sphere).

Jose Medina (commodore): A human that was born on the Federation world Meramar, he rose quickly in the ranks of Starfleet to the flag rank of commodore. In that position he commanded part of the 12th Fleet during the Dominion War from his flagship the modified USS Majestic (NCC-1756), a Galaxy-class battleship (Millennium update). He became the founder of the Second Federation and made First Contact with a dozen new races in and around the giant star Deneb. He also engaged in significant combat with the Primisaurr Empire three times, eventually forcing them to a mandatory peace treaty in 2394 AD. As the head of Starfleet Deneb, he also oversaw the development of multi-dimensional phasers and polymorphic shields, and was a true visionary in the area of starship development and design. Finally, he discovered the immense Preserver (Originator) Planet-Maker near Deneb and then the trans-galactic Originator Gateway Device, and was made honorary mayor of the planet Akwaterra after his death, in 2420 AD.

Jupiter-class starship (UFP): built by Starfleet for Federation colonization, this large heavy transport is capable of hauling more than 40,000 people to new worlds. A total of 35 were built and used to alleviate overpopulation on the core worlds of the Federation; they were finally scrapped in the early 2300s.

Kaleb System (UFP): a major Federation colony located close to the Romulan Neutral Zone, this planet has seen several battles between the UFP and Romulans. More than a billion Federation citizens call Kaleb home, with Starbase 39 located nearby.

Kal'tesh-class starship (Klingon): These brand-new battleships were designed specifically to combat the Romulan D'Deridex II-class warships. Built around a massive armored core and central spinal mount, the Kal'tesh-class were made for heavy combat. The new battleship included advanced regenerative triple shielding, partial neutronium armor coverage, and a massive Spinal Wave Disruptor that could target a broad region of space, hitting numerous enemy warships all at once. With their heavy armor and shields, these monstrous warships were immune to much return enemy fire. More than 400 were built during the Resolute and Dominion Wars.

Kal'tosk-class starship (Klingon): The Kal'tosk-class had been on the drawing boards for nearly a decade but unfortunately finding funding to create such a large and risky design had been nearly impossible. With three new experimental beam weapons (none of which were battlefield tested) the new heavy warship was an uncertain risk that the Klingon Admiralty refused to finance. However two dozen were laid down at the beginning of the Resolute War, and these advanced battleships were eventually fielded against the Romulans in the second year of the conflict. Ultimately the Kal'tosk design immediately proved to be a lethal warship against every battlefield target, with its new polarized disruptors and resonance disruptors proving to be extremely effective against enemy warships. The central spinal "piercing disruptor" was especially devastating, expertly targeting and destroying static bases on asteroids, moons, and planets.

Karm (UFP): located near the Romulan Neutral Zone, this Federation world was depopulated by the virus from the IDIC Epidemic. More than 800,000 people perished and the planet is currently quarantined (in 2450 AD).

Kelgia (planet): the homeworld of the Kelgian race, this world is class-M. It resides near the giant star Deneb, nearly 3000 light years from the core worlds of the Federation. Population is estimated to be 3 billion sentients. In the past, Kelgia had been raided by the Primisaurr Empire and currently boasts very advanced system defenses due to those previous aggressive attacks.

Kelgians (race): this caterpillar-like race was first contacted by Federation ships stranded near the distant star Deneb. Nearly human in size, they get along extremely well with other races and joined the Second Federation early in its formation. A high-tech race, the Kelgians joined the United Federation of Planets when it absorbed the Second Federation in 2395 AD.

Kerrn'n-class Fast Cargo Transport: this Klingon vessel was first constructed in 2374 and several hundred were built (400+). They were extremely fast on the battlefield, lightly armed, and were equipped with a 5th generation stealthy cloaking device. The Kerrn'n-class transports resupplied the Klingon Fleet throughout the Resolute War, and the Dominion War as well.

Klingon Civil War (2367 AD): The Klingon Civil War was a conflict fought from early to late 2367 over the right to choose the next Chancellor of the Klingon High Council and de facto leader of the Klingon Empire. The war was fought between forces loyal to Gowron, the legally appointed candidate, and the supporters of the House of Duras (led by the vile Lursa and B'Etor). In the end, the war was a decisive victory for Gowron, but it was achieved only through indirect assistance from the United Federation of Planets in exposing covert Romulan assistance to the forces of the Duras family.

Klingon Empire: The Klingon Empire is the official state of the Klingon people. It was founded in the 9th century by Kahless the Unforgettable, who first united the Klingon homeworld of Qo'noS. Since then, the Klingon Empire expanded its sphere of influence by militarily conquering numerous nearby star systems and incorporating them into the Empire. This made the Klingons a major power in its region of the galaxy, as of the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th centuries.

Lanihan (planet): located in the Federation "Arm", this planet is considered to be the perfect example of a M-class world. It's now a major colonization spot for several races from the United Federation of Planets.

Leander-class starship (UFP): this class of starship was first built by Starfleet in 2360, just a few years before the outbreak of the Resolute War. More than 50 vessels have been built, mainly at the UFP shipyard around Andor and at the planet Militar. It was designed as a scaled-down version of the Galaxy-class but as war loomed most of the ships were converted to military-grade. It is now considered a frigate class and carries just 100 crew. The Leander-class has a deadly tactical battle pod which can fire hundreds of torpedoes.

Lemnor (UFP planet): One of the Founding Members of the Federation, this planet is the homeworld of the Lemnorian species and a major starship production site. It is located less than 100 light years from the UFP capital on Earth. Alien homeworld of 3 billion, the government is a federal matriarchy. Over the last few decades, Lemnorians have contributed many new scientific inventions to Starfleet. Lemnor has excellent ship facilities (A+) and is the fourth of eleven planets circling it's Red primary.

Liaoning: A semi-habitable moon located in the Dubhe System, its human (North Korean) inhabitants are known as stealthy troublemakers. It was first settled in 2199 AD and took part in the military crisis, the Dubhe Emergency. The planet is now an Associate Member of the Federation.

Lindstur (2 UFP): This planet is as safe as it is beautiful, with abundant large continents and perfect global weather for growing crops. It became a multi-racial colony early on and produces a great deal of metals for Second Federation, especially in the platinum group. Orbital facilities here are small and spartan, however. This star system is located within 100 light years from the star Deneb.

Lysert Homeworld (planet): located near the giant star Deneb, this planet is the homeworld of a friendly cat-like humanoid race, the Lysertlings. It is a class-M world, with a population around 3 billion sentients. It was raided hundreds of times by the Dewan'n Slaver Empire but evetually the planet joined the Second Federation and all attacks against the world stopped when Starfleet/Deneb began patrolling the system with warships.

Lysertling (race): an intelligent humanoid race, these aliens are cat like in appearance. They get along well with other races and are scientifically curious. They are proud members of the Second Federation, and later the United Federation of Planets.

MacPherson-class starship: Initially designed by one of Starfleet's most brilliant engineers, Commodore Ian Eisenhower, the MacPherson-class starship was built to replace the aging Lagrange-class tugs. Commodore Eisenhower also developed several critical engineering systems that are widely used within Starfleet today. The most important of these systems being the first generation of docking latches (predecessor of the Galaxy-class docking system). Another important system was a detached upper pylon, which the MacPherson-class used as a deuterium storage tank and was also the location of the SPY-EYE long range sensor system. The MacPherson-class tug was first developed in 2344 at Starbase 660 and the Block II starship was developed at Newport News, Terra/Sol in 2356. Trying to save both time and money, Starfleet Command pursued a fast-track design and production plan for the MacPherson-class starship. Commodore Ian Eisenhower took just seven weeks to prepare and submit a design, which was approved by the Federation Council two weeks later. The first MacPherson-class tug was laid down at the Nimitz Yards in the Pike System on Stardate 24543.3 and was completed twelve months later. The USS MacPherson (NCC-27300) was the first ship in this class and was piloted out of the Nimitz Yards by her Captain, Sun Cen. The MacPherson-class tug was initially designed to carry up to 400 personnel, but the Block II Upgrade has much higher personnel requirements (730 officers and crew). The vessel has a gross weight of 900,000 metric tons and is 721 meters in length. The flagship of this class is the USS Lagrange (NCC-3916A) and is currently assigned to 9th Fleet in the Bajor Sector. A total of forty-four MacPherson-class starships were built, and their stunning ability to withstand damage accounted for the loss of only one vessel due to enemy action (the USS Hadley). That fact made them immensely popular with their crews and the staff at Starfleet Command. Current MacPherson-class vessels being built are the USS Montana, USS Robspierre, USS Rainhorse, and USS T'uruk. All of these vessels are being built at the newly expanded Deneb Fleet Yards, which are currently the largest in Federation space.

Magna Roma (UFP): This world was the inhabited fourth planet of the 892 system. Classified as M-class, the planet was orbited by two moons and was the homeworld of the 892-IV natives, a pre-warp humanoid species. 892-IV had a striking resemblance to Earth. However, as much as there were similarities, there were differences. The proportion of land to water, density, and atmosphere (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen) were exactly like those on Earth. However, unlike Earth, the diameter at the equator (7,917 miles) and layout of some of the continents were different. This planet was cited as evidence of Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development. The English language had evolved, and a parallel of the Roman Empire existed here. When first discovered by the Starfleet vessel USS Enterprise, it was a non-aligned world that hadn't yet become warp-capable. The planetary capital was Rome. The dominant species were the humanoid citizens and barbarians. In 2378, there were an estimated 8.6 billion people living on the planet. The society's technology was nearly equivalent to the mid-21st century on Earth. Magna Roma later joined the United Federation of Planets as a full member.

Mako Sector (UFP): Part of the Federation "Arm" that connects the core worlds of the Federation to the Second Federation region. This area is a supersector, encompassing 36 sectors and several hundred star systems, most of which are currently unexplored. The sector capital is located on the waterworld of Mako, with a UFP support shipyard in orbit.

Mako (planet): a beautiful class-M waterworld located in the Federation Arm, it is the capital of the sector and has been colonized by more than 50 million Federation citizens, primarily Humans and Vulcans.

Marcos Rota (Admiral): one of the primary commanding Starfleet officers during the Resolute War, his fleet operated out of the Federation Annex. He was a human, born on Earth in 2305 AD in Mexico City. In conjunction with Klingon forces, Admiral Rota was able to successfully invade the Romulan Empire and conducted several critical battles against their warfleet. He survived the war and the taught at Starfleet Academy for more than a decade, later retiring off-world.

Mar'tok-class starship (Klingon): This heavy cruiser class warship was built by the Klingon military, beginning production in 2372 AD in a half dozen military shipyards deep within the Klingon Empire. The warship proved extremely effective on the battlefield, making it a very potent warship against all enemy combatants. The Mar'tok-class heavy cruisers were continually produced by the Klingon Empire well into the Dominion War, with a total number of 745 being built.

Melf (planet): located in the Deneb colonization region of the Second Federation, the planet Melf is the homeworld of a crab-like race. Their society is high-tech and progressive, and more than 50 billion citizens live on the planet. It became part of the Second Federation in 2388 AD and later part of the United Federation of Planets.

Melfans (race): a crab-like race, the Melfans are aquatic in nature and friendly to outsiders. Their society knew of other alien races, with the Dewan'n slavers often raiding the planet. When first contacted by Starfleet Deneb forces, they agreed to become part of the Second Federation. When the 2UFP rejoined the original Federation just 8 years later, the Melfans became a permanent member of that organization.

Memory Alpha (UFP): Famed scientist Zephram Cochrane first postulated the building of a vast library system within the Federation to increase knowledge and learning. The first of these built was the Memory Alpha facility. Memory Alpha was the pride of the Federation's scientific and educational delegations. A nominally useless planetoid became home to a sprawling network of interlinked domes and computer systems which formed a central library facility containing the total cultural history and scientific knowledge of all Federation members, a sort of information warehouse. Unfortunately, the Memory Alpha facility was destroyed shortly after it went online when the last incorporeal intelligence of an ancient race, searching for a physical existence, killed more than 3,000 peaceful scholars, staff, and researchers and wiped clean the central databanks of Memory Alpha in little more than a minute. Since the Memory Alpha disaster, the entire concept of the libraries being unshielded and fully accessible repositories of freely available data has changed. In the end, all six Memory facilities have become some of the most secure installations in the Federation. Faced with the lesson of Memory Alpha, project planners decided that no chances would be taken. They built an entire network of Memory planets spread throughout Federation space, far enough removed from each other that only a galactic disaster could affect them all. For cost effectiveness, each has a specialty. Memory Beta is a center for exobiology. Memory Gamma focused it's efforts on economics and agriculture; Memory Delta, stellar and planetary formation and evolution; Memory Epsilon, multiphysics; Memory Omega, defense issues and planning; and Memory Prime, the central node to control and channel the activities of the entire Memory network. Other branches of knowledge await the funding and construction of additional Memory planets. Memory Alpha has been rebuilt to record the cultural history and scientific knowledge of the Federation. Each specialized facility serves as a total storage backup for every other Memory station in an intricate, holographic web of subspace data transmission and downloading.

Memory Prime: the central node to control and channel the activities of the entire Memory network, it is located deep within Federation territory and MORE HERE SOON

Meramar (UFP): a human colony world located near the Romulan Neutral Zone. Natives of Meramar are all members of ancient warrior families, accustomed to fighting their way to what they want thru blood and war. A very harsh world, all inhabitants live in castles to protect themselves. With modern weapons, castles and the Meramar way of life would be meaningless but all citizens have agreed to limit themselves to the weapons of the first settlers. Meramar is a Federation world with 80 million inhabitants. The planet suffered from the Nisus Virus during the Resolute War, losing nearly 20% of its population to the virulent disease.

Mibrannu (race): this alien race are born in the upper atmosphere of gas giants. Their homeworld is located in the Federation Annex Zone. After years of talks, the Mibrannu joined the United Federation of Planets, shortly before the outbreak of the Resolute War.

Mikulak Massacre: a devastating attack by the Romulans against the Mikulak Homeworld left more than 99% of the population dead, sparking outrage and all-out efforts by the Federation to bring the Resolute War to an end. It was a turning point for many UFP worlds that had halfheartedly supported the war.

Mikulaks (race): A Federation-allied race, these aliens and their homeworld were virtually wiped out by a sneak Romulan attack during the Resolute War. The UFP has been trying to help the survivors build a society on nearby world. This "massacre" by the Romulans against Federation citizens spured every world in the UFP to a war footing, eventually helping in end the all-war early (less than 2 years later).

Militar (UFP): The Federation planet Marlheim had been a scholar's world, renowned for its art academies and universities, before the Romulan Border Wars. Then the Roms moved in during the opening phases of the Border Wars. Human natives of Marlheim might have been high-brows and philosophers, but that didn't mean they were airheads, and the Romulans soon discovered they'd caught the tiger by the tail! The academics of Marlheim warmed up their computers, set up their data searches, and turned to the study of guerrilla warfare, sabotage, and assassination as if preparing to sit their doctrinal orals. Within a year, they had two divisions tied down; by the time the UFP counterattacked, the Romulan garrison had grown to three corps....and was still losing ground. Once freed, the planet renamed itself Militar. The humans of Militar hadn't forgotten a thing since, and they decided to turn their surviving universities in a new direction. Militar no longer produced artists, sculptors, and composers; it produced physicists, chemists, strategists, engineers, weapon specialists, and one of humanity's most advanced R&D complexes. The best mercenary outfits in this corner of the galaxy are based on Militar and most of their personnel hold reserve commissions in the planetary armed forces. Militar is also the first human planet to construct a full-scale nanotech orbital tower (beanstalk). The UFP Drop Cadre (drop commandos) are trained on Militar and its Medical University is where they receive the techic bioenhancement procedures. A combat computer at the base of the skull runs all the servos and weapons using optical fibers. Small lasers in the fingers, a arcthrower, and antiarmor laser in the calf are the Cadres' deadliest weapons. Ingrafted bone laminae and muscular support increases physical strength by a factor of three. This bioenhancement is strictly classified and never utilized outside of the UFP Cadre structure. Today Militar remains one of the more important military worlds within the Federation.

Minicor Minor (2 UFP): This non-habitable planet is a mining world that was annexed by the Second Federation because of its easily accessed mineral resources, and the lucky happenstance that its ecosphere had badly deteriorated as the planet aged, instead of forcing the Federation to gut a nice habitable world in its place. Located just 60 light years from Akwaterra, it has become a major colony-world of the Tellarites once the Second Federation merged with the old UFP.

Miri's World (UFP): Almost a dozen worlds found within Federation space are near exact-copies of the planet Earth and the first discovered was Miri's World, located 163 light years from Earth by the UFP starship USS Enterprise on Stardate (year?). MORE HERE SOON

Mirror-Earth Worlds: When the United Federation of Planets began to explore nearby worlds, it discovered several planets that appeared to look exactly like Humanity's homeworld, and were inhabited by humans. Some were extremely different than Earth history (Miri's World and Magna Roma) while others' were very very similar (Selva and New Earth) but others were were just plain unusual (Bradley's World, Uelterra, and Tromph). Eventually the source of these modified worlds was found: a huge planetary terraforming machine that was capable of interstellar travel, the Planet-Maker. The Preservers had built this machine millennia ago and also transplanted these exact Earth-like terraformed worlds with humans. To this day no one knows why the Preservers have gone to such extensive lengths to ensure humanity's survival.

Narendra III: This world is the inhabited third planet orbiting the primary Narendra. It was colonized by the Klingons prior to 2152 but in 2344, the outpost was attacked and destroyed by four Romulan warbirds; an assault which was later known as the Battle of Narendra III. The UFP starship USS Enterprise-C responded to the outpost's distress call, but was also lost in the battle against the Romulans. This course of action was considered as an act of honor by the Klingon Empire, which led to the signing of a new permanent peace treaty with the Federation.

Nebula-class Pod: MORE HERE SOON

Nebula-class starship (UFP): This class of starship is a type of Federation vessel in use by Starfleet in the 24th century. Officially designated as an explorer, the Nebula ships are also sometimes referred to as cruisers. The majority of ships in this class are named for spectacular galactic gas clouds known as nebulae. The battle-portion of the ship (also known as the "stardrive" since it has warp capability) can separate from the Saucer Section and engage in battle against enemy vessels. This overall design created a much more capable military warship for use by Starfleet. Finally, the construction of this class of starship is located at the Antares Fleet Yards (Antares IV), the New Aberdeen Fleetyard (Aldebaran), Utopia Planitia (Mars), the Atlas V Fleetyard (Deneb Kaitos V), and the Copernicus Fleetyard (Luna). More detailed information about the Nebula-class can be found HERE.

Nelvana III: This world was the uninhabited third planet of the Nelvana system and it was also located in the Romulan Neutral Zone. Its surface was nothing but barren rock, with no native lifeforms. In 2366, Nelvana III was the subject of an elaborate ruse perpetrated by the Romulan Star Empire to expose Admiral Jarok as a traitor and to provoke the Federation into violating the Neutral Zone. Later, the USS Enterprise-D entered the Zone for a more in-depth study of the planet. When the Enterprise arrived in orbit, there were no indications of a secret Romulan base at all. Two Romulan warbirds de-cloaked, revealed the trap, and opened fire. The Enterprise was destroyed but many of the crew survived thanks to hidden Klingon reinforcements. This strike against Klingon and Federation forces by the Romulans sparked the beginning of the Resolute War, and the final occupation of the Star Empire by both powers.

New Aberdeen Yard (Aldebaran): A major UFP shipbuilding center located in the Aldebaran System.

New Trombay (2 UFP): a lush terraformed world located near the star Deneb, this planet became a colonization hotspot for the Federation once it joined with the Second Federation. The majority of the new colonists are from Earth, from the Indian subcontinent.

Nimitz-class Carrier (UFP): First constructed during the Resolute War by Starfleet, this medium-class carrier was a hasty design, with 65% of the vessel already existing as Excelsior-class parts, including the saucer section, the drive section, and the warp nacelles. During actual combat operations the United Federation of Planets had very little time to actually design and build new warships from scratch, so existing designs were heavily modified to survive on the battlefield, and thus the Nimitz-class was born. Initial assembly took place in the Terran System, at Utopia Planitia with the first starship USS Liscome Bay being finished on Stardate 47947. Seven more vessels in the same class were finished that same year and all units were deployed with to the 12th Fleet under Admiral Carlos Rota. The Nimitz-class starships were designed as carrier-based units, carrying more than 100 small craft and fighters onto the battlefield. With a robust defensive suite of armor and shields, as well as updated phaser pods, these vessels could endure heavy combat conditions alongside the cruisers and destroyers of the Starfleet battlefleet. While deployed in the Federation Annex region, only one Nimitz-class starship was lost in combat (the USS Kalinin Bay) while defending a second Romulan attack against the planet Kostolain. Captained by Tunami Rao, the Kalinin Bay lost over 200 personnel in the attack, but survivors landed on the planet and were recovered quickly. In a active combat zone, typically 144 fighter craft can be fielded by a Nimitz-class carrier. At the end of the Resolute War these medium carriers were evaluated by military analysts and were confirmed as solid combat zone units; they were later deployed in the Dominion War as well, where they performed admirably.

Nipigon (2 UFP): This is a non-habitable mining world that was annexed by the Second Federation for its rich underground resources. Estimates are that these mineral deposits will last at least a thousand years of heavy use. Located just 30 light years from Akwaterra, it is also a top secret research station for newly discovered Federation biotech.

Nisus Colony (UFP): This world is a Federation scientific "open" colony with people of many different species living and working together: there are even Klingons there living peacefully with Humans, Orions, Vulcans, and other types of people. This planet is also the site of a biowarfare attack by the Romulan Star Empire during the Resolute War, with the plague beginning to rapidly spread across the Federation. A cure was eventually discovered but the despicable use of biological warfare against civilians enraged the Federation government, Starfleet personnel, and the average citizenry, goading them into a more militaristic stance against the Romulan Star Empire and bringing the war to a quicker conclusion.

Nisus Virus: a devastating biological weapon created by the Romulans. It was designed to cross-infect all known species within the Federation and was used during the Resolute War. More than a million UFP citizens died from the plague before a cure was eventually found. See IDIC Epidemic.

Noro Sector (Romulan): a major sector located deep within the Romulan Empire and the location of the productive Noro client race, this entire region was overrun and conquered by the Klingons in the Resolute War and remains under their control to this day.

Nova-class starship: This class of starship was a type of Federation starship designed for short-term planetary research missions and it was placed in service starting in the late 24th century by the United Federation of Planets under Starfleet Command. After 2370, many of the Nova-class starships were constructed in the Sol system at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards: the USS Equinox was constructed and launched at this time. The Nova-class was designed as a science and scout vessel, intended for short-term planetary research and analysis and it is not typically suitable for combat operations. The Nova design has a maximum speed of warp 8 and approximately eighty crewmembers. One Nova-class ship, the USS Manafort (NCC-72705), was used to test the new zero-point energy warp core given to Starfleet Command by the Bajorans, who invented the technology. The test was a resounding success and the Federation went on to equip most of its starships with this new drive by 2410 AD.

Okinawa-class starship (2UFP): Built by Starfleet Deneb, this warship was...

Olympus-class dreadnaught (UFP): Built after a Borg attack on Earth (via Wolf 359) and rising Romulan intervention in internal Federation affairs, the Olympus-class dreadnought was a culmination of several attempts by Starfleet Command to construct and maintain a large battleship-style starship. First laid down in 2366 AD, the first ship in this class (the USS Zeus NCC-4466) performed so exceptionally well in its role as fleet support that Starfleet Command ordered the construction of 12 of these starships. Several were built immediately before the outbreak of the Resolute War and discharged their duty effectively. Carrying more than 2500 troops, the Olympus-class dreadnoughts also transports 96 attack fighters and fielded Starfleets' newest weaponry, including new advanced polarized phasers, a large antimatter converging beam, and a devious subspace mine dropper. The attack fighters are beamed out to one billion kilometers distant using the new advanced subspace transporter system. These new dreadnoughts were the first to use the Federations' new transporter construction technology, enabling Starfleet to rapidly construct these front-line battlewagons in under 12 months. The USS Zeus also has two extremely large and advanced warp cores that enables it to maintain warp 9.9995 indefinitely. Two separate engine rooms (Alpha Engineering and Beta Engineering) also allows for much more power than the Galaxy-class starship. One engine room is located in the Saucer Section, enabling it to fly at warp speeds once separated from the Drive Section: the starship also has two complete engineering teams to operate both sections. The USS Zeus also carries 1000 quantum/photon torpedoes for it's twenty-two torpedo launchers. In addition, heavy phaser collimator rings and new expanded heat flush intakes allow for longer firing times for the ships' phaser systems, and Starfleet's newest phaser weapon (the burst phaser) was also incorporated into the new dreadnought design during its second refit. During the Dominion War, the Olympus-class was upgraded to the Mark II version, with increased weaponry and defenses. The new defensive capabilities that were added were the advanced Refractive Hull Coating (RHC) and a new sixth generation shield system, which used focused anti-proton beams fired from inside the ships' shield bubble, increasing shield strength by a factor of ten. This made Starfleets' dreadnoughts the most powerfully shielded warships in the galaxy.

Operation Omega: this Starfleet project is a emergency evacuation plan currently being installed by the United Federation of Planets in the face of a potentially unstoppable Borg invasion. Dozens of transporter satellites are being emplaced around every world in the Federation and when activated they begin a emergency transport of every citizen on the planet. Within 2 minutes all people are placed into a nearby super-large transporter buffer, and then the matter stream is directed down a chain of UFP satellites to the secure Jenolan Dyson Sphere. Once there, they will be rematerialized in safety. This proposal was first conceived by the Borg Planning Group after the initial Borg attack at Wolf 359 and.....MORE HERE SOON

The sector capital is located on the Earth-like world of Oriskany, with a UFP support shipyard in orbit.

Or'Loth-class starship (Klingon): While lagging on the drawing boards for years, the Klingon High Command could never come up with a finalized design for this warship, and the first initial six space frames were stored in orbit in the Noarl System. The outbreak of Resolute War between the Romulans against the Klingons and Federation forced local commanders in Noarl to prioritize the Or'Loths and send them into battle as quickly as possible. Providentially, this warship design was extremely effective in combat, using the Klingon's newest cloaking technology to its advantage, as well as its new high powered "double-disruptors". In the first 3 months of combat in Romulan space, the Or'Loth-class battlecruisers proved their value on the battlefield and eight dozen more were ordered for the Klingon Navy in late 2368. These battlecruisers' were designed and weaponized by the House of Kozek, a minor but growing house within the Empire.

Otoni III (2 UFP): This is a non-habitable mining world with huge underground rerserves of petroleum, coal, natural gas, and dilithium crystals. The planet was annexed early on by the Second Federation and large orbital tankers can be seen here often. Otoni III is a mere 15 light years from Akwaterra and it is also a Weapons Testing Range for Starfleet/Deneb.

Palmachan Fleet Base (Romulan): located in the Narendra Sector of the Romulan Empire, it was the site of a major civilian colony and immense fleet base. However during the initial phases of the Resolute War the majority of the bases mobile defenses were stripped away in a futile effort to halt the Klingon advance into Romulan space. At the Battle of Dordellis the majority of the Romulan sector fleet was annihilated and the fleet base at Palmachan was easily overcome later that same week.

Pike System (UFP planet): Location of the Pike System Wormhole and Associate Member of the Federation, this world has a population of five billion people. The system has three habitable planets (Pike, Spear, and Lance) and all are descendants of more primitive humans, possibly relocated there by the Preservers.

Planet-Maker, the: a immense technofossil located near the giant star Deneb, it was used by the Originators to terraform entire worlds. Reactivated by Second Federation scientists, this mighty machine continues to transform worlds into class-M planets. See Originator Planet-Maker.

Pol (2 UFP): located within the borders of the Second Federation, this world is class-M with extensive resources below its surface. The planet was colonized by UFP citizens after the Second Federation rejoined it.

Polarized Phasers: Developed after the first attack on Earth by the Borg, this unique weapon system was created by scientists at Beth Delta I, a Federation military colony. These phasers were made to have a much higher power output, with automatic rotating frequency, as well as cross-spectrum capability, greatly enhancing these beam weapons to penetrate Borg defensive shielding. Polarized phasers were only equipped on military-grade Starfleet vessels after 2370 AD.

Polymorphic Shields (2 UFP): Developed by Second Federation scientists after the Dominion War ended, these new types of shields cover very large areas and are exceptional for use in defending starbases. Compared to standard Federation shields, polymorphic shields are rated at ten times the normal power of a starships shield strength. When the Second Federation was absorbed into the UFP, Starfleet adopted this technology. See Sixth Generation Shield Bubble.

Port Allenby (UFP): A small Federation colony located near the Romulan border, more than 90% of the population of 15,000 people were wiped out by the IDIC Epidemic, a plague released by the Romulans upon the Federation during the Resolute War.

Preservers (race): The Preservers were a highly-advanced alien race who passed through the galaxy rescuing primitive cultures in danger of extinction, and seeding them on other worlds where they could be allowed to grow and thrive. Their activities accounted for the large number of humanoid species in the galaxy. They apparently came into conflict with the T'kon Empire and vanished hundreds of thousands of years ago. Good examples of their interference on worlds within the Federation include the planets' Meramar, Magna Roma, Miri's World and more than two dozen other worlds. Also known as the "Originators".

Prometheus-class starship (UFP): This class of starship was a Federation advanced warship developed for tactical operations in deep space. The first starship in this class entered service in the year 2374. Its main feature was the multi-vector assault mode, which allowed a Prometheus-class escort to split into three warp-capable, combat-ready sections Alpha, Beta and Gamma. It was a revolutionary design that had the ability to confront the enemy from multiple, warp capable vectors for a formidable surprise attack: no other starship in Stafleet has ever had this attack option. The Prometheus-class was one of several starship designs, along with the Sovereign and Defiant classes, that were created in response to the Borg threat following the USS Enterprise-D's encounter with a Borg Cube in System J-25 in 2365. In creating this ship, Starfleet Tactical's task was to design a vessel that could be fast, maneuverable, and be equipped with the latest weaponry that was being designed to fight the Borg. During the Resolute War, the Prometheus-class still in the prototype stage. It was later a re-classified as an advanced tactical cruiser and more than two hundred were constructed and used the Dominion War.

Ptolemy-class starship (UFP): a strategic tug-class starship developed by Starfleet during the Resolute War, it was created using a Excelsior-class saucer section and mated with 4 warp nacelles. More than two dozen were fielded before the war ended. They primarily hauled deuterium into the Federation Annex Zone.

Pyairr (planet): a important mixed-race Federation colony located in the Deneb Arm, this world is being used to funnel supplies and colonists to planets down the "Arm".

Pyairr Sector (UFP): Part of the Federation "Arm" that connects the core worlds of the Federation to the Second Federation region. This area is a supersector, encompassing 36 sectors and several hundred star systems, most of which are currently unexplored. The sector capital is located on the Earth-like world of Pyairr, with a UFP support shipyard in orbit.

Q'onoS: is the homeworld of the warp-capable Klingon species and the capital of the Klingon Empire. Also known as "Kling", and transliterated to Kronos in English, is a inhabited class M planet in the Qo'noS star system. It only has only one moon (Praxis). The star system is in Sector 70 (the Qo'noS sector) in block 27, the Omega Leonis sector block, in the Beta Quadrant. Described as a "planet of caves", the planet was composed of a subterranean series of volcanoes, which lay dormant for centuries, to the point of being considered extinct, before becoming alive again in the 2250s. Q'onoS was raided and damaged by the Romulan Fleet during the Resolute War, prompting the use of a Klingon protomatter torpedo which destroyed Romulus in 2374 AD.

Quad-Eye Sensor Array: a military-grade sensor system developed by the United Federation of Planets during the Cardassian wars. This starship-mounted sensor has a 50LY range and can detect and effectively track up to 150 enemy vessels.

Qualor Depot: Qualor II is the inhabited second planet in its star system and is Class M, population 55 million people. It is a Federation associated member world located in Sector 203 near the Romulan Neutral Zone. This Zakdorn-operated Surplus Depot is located in orbit of Qualor II and is home to hundreds of decommissioned Federation and Starfleet starships, including those from nearly every Federation member world. Although the depot and shipyard orbit Qualor II, the depot's administration facilities are located on the planet's surface. The enormous shipyard, which virtually surrounds the planet like one of the rings of Saturn, holds over 5,000 ships. It is divided into over 7,000 areas, each designated by a system of coordinates devised by the Zakdorn. The Zakdorn organize the shipyard into 360 distinct areas, each stretching the equivalent of one degree along the orbit of the shipyard around the planet. Each of these areas is then further divided into 200 individual sections. In most cases only a single ship occupies any single section of the shipyard, but some areas contain multiple smaller-sized ships such as transport ships, runabout-class ships, and small fighter-type craft. Most of the personnel at Z15 are Zakdorn, but they also employ a number of technicians and engineers or other races. In particular, the engineer corps that services the Z15 shipyard includes Tellarites. Just as the Tellarites are experts at ship design and construction, so too are they expert at salvage. Qualor II, or, more precisely, the Qualor system, holds great strategic importance. Its location near the Romulan Neutral Zone makes it an ideal place for listening posts, as well as a jumping-off point for any missions of expeditions into the Neutral Zone or Romulan space (if Starfleet ever felt it necessary to take any). Presumably it would be one of the Romulans' first targets in the event of a Federation-Romulan war.

Quantum Torpedoes: The quantum torpedo is an advanced heavy weapon developed by Starfleet as a part of its Advanced Defense Initiative to combat Borg incursions. As the original photon torpedo reached what many Starfleet researchers agreed was its highest possible explosive yield, a group of engineers at the Starfleet R&D facility on Groombridge 273-2A began investigating methods for achieving a higher release of energy from a projectile of equal dimensions to the photon torpedo. Starfleet began to include quantum torpedoes within its arsenal as early as 2371. When a ship was destroyed with quantum torpedoes, the explosion leaves a significant antiproton residue on the hull fragments.

Raid Over Miri's World: Attracted by a permanent Starfleet starship presence, Romulan vessels raided this mirror-Earth world in 2369 AD, badly damaging it and killing millions of civilians. This attack sparked outrage across the United Federation of Planets; recovery efforts are still underway.

Raid Over Q'onoS (fall 2374): at the end of the Resolute War, the Romulan government and military became desperate to avoid defeat, so much so that they launched a surprise raid against the Klingon Homeworld in the last weeks of the war. While nearly 40 Romulan warships attacked the planet, a single warbird began a suicidal run towards the star systems sun, intending to detonate a trilithium device inside it and wiping out the Klingon leadership in one strike. This raid failed when cloaked KDF warships shot down all enemy warships, including the Romulan vessel intending to detonate the Q'onoS star. The response by the Klingon military was immediate and brutal; in retaliation in kind, a KDF transwarp battleship destroyed the supergiant star Hobus inside the Romulan Star Empire, killing billions of civilians and destroying both Romulus and Remus, as well as other nearby planets, bringing the Resolute War to a shocking end.

Romulan Star Empire: The Romulan Star Empire, also known in some Romulan languages as the Rihannsu Star Empire and as the "Latasam Stelai Rom'lnz" which when translated meant Star Road of the People, was the primary Romulan state. Located in the Beta Quadrant, the empire was founded through the unification and conquest of the planet Romulus and of dozens of star systems over many sectors of space. It was known to have existed as long ago as 4000 BC and has come into conflict with many races, including the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. In the 22nd century the Empire made attempts to destabilize local space eventually leading to the Earth-Romulan War. The Romulans saw defeat in the war and retreated behind the newly established Romulan Neutral Zone for the next century. Eventually the Romulans pushed too hard and sparked the Resolute War, which saw the end of the Star Empire at the hands of the Klingons and the UFP. During that war, the Klingons destroyed the Hobus star, which went supernova: the shockwave breached subspace and destroyed the Romulan capital system, killing billions. Today (as of 2450 AD) more than 90% of the Star Empire has been absorbed into the Klingon Empire.

Romulan Monitor-class starship: This class of warship was built for defending vital worlds along the Klingon and Federation border. They were incredibly expensive to build and were limited in their usage: they had no warp drive, enabling the additional power to be shunted to weapons and shields. They were, however, equipped with a cloaking device and had massive slates of compressed matter armor built into the warship. Overall they were a effective design, having twice the firepower of a enemy vessel of the same size.

Romulus: Romulus was the home of the Romulans, who were an offshoot race of the Vulcans; the planet was named after the mythical home of the Vulcan god Ket-cheleb known as Rom'laas. During the 4th century AD, a group of Vulcans left their homeworld Vulcan and settled the planets Calder II, Dessica II, Draken IV, Yadalla Prime and Barradas III. This civilization, called the Debrune, was regarded as a predecessor of the Romulan Star Empire. After their odyssey, which lasted for centuries, the Vulcans finally reached Romulus, a planet that matched all their needs and seemed as a perfect place to begin a new civilization. It was the capital of the growing Romulan Star Empire, an extremely aggressive and xenophobic interstellar nation. The planet was destroyed and all 10 billion of its inhabitants were killed in the year 2734 by a Klingon weapon fired at the supergiant star Hobus.

Ryan Farris (Captain): The Captain of Starfleets' newest dreadnought (the USS Zeus NCC-4466) is Ryan Farris. Born and raised on the human colony world Kennedy, he briefly attended the Betazed University before applying to Starfleet. Captain Farris finished Starfleet Academy and graduated top of his class in Applied Tactics and Weapons Theory. Starfleet Command then stationed him on his homeworld as military liaison for a year. After rising rapidly in the ranks, he was the transferred to the USS Yamato as third officer. He also did a stint on Admiral Nechayev's staff until he was given command of the USS Essex, a Excelsior-class vessel: clearly Starfleet was grooming him for flag rank. After three years, Captain Farris was given command right from the yard of the USS Zeus, Starfleet's very first prototype dreadnought in a hundred years. He served very effectively in both the Resolute and Dominion Wars, and successfully spearheaded attacks against rogue Borg vessels in the Delta Quadrant.

Sailor (planet): a waterworld colonized by humans from Adriatic Prime. It joined the United Federation of Planets later with all its sister worlds. The planet is located in the Canopus Sector of the Federation Annex Zone.

San Francisco (Starfleet HQ): located in the state of California on Earth, this seaside city is the location of Starfleet Command. The area around this strategic site is heavily armed with planetary defenses but not enough to deter a Dominion attack in 2375 AD which badly damaged the Starfleet facilities and the city of San Francisco itself. Later Starfleet built deep-underground command facilities to ensure that such an attack wouldn't again decapitate the leadership of Starfleet.

Seabright (planet): a medium-population world colonized by humans from Adriatic Prime. Located in the Canopus Sector of the Federation Annex Zone, it is known for its stunning beaches, exotic resorts, and prodigious sea-life.

Second Federation: after a small task force of Starfleet vessels were stranded more than 3,000 light years from Earth, the fleet personnel decided to settle down and explore the region. After discovering several friendly nearby races they founded the Second Federation in 2380 AD. The Second Federation was eventually discovered by the original United Federation of Planets in 2394 AD and absorbed back into the UFP, creating a vast new Federation colonization zone around the giant star Deneb.

Setisar Treaty of 2425: After a devastating civil war within the Borg Collective, dozens of freed Borg vessels managed to make it to the Alpha Quadrant and set up a new star nation near the Setisar Nebula, to the galactic north of Romulan space. They became allies and technological partners of the UFP, and fought alongside Starfleet in several wars after that. This new Federation/Borg Commune alliance is known as the Setisar Treaty of 2425.

She enabled the Borg to escape a trap in Unimatrix Zero, sparking the Borg Civil War. NOTE: in canon material, Seven isn't found and freed until much later, but I am using her much earlier in the timeline.

Shedai: a nearly extinct alien race, the Shedai controlled a vast amount of space. The Shedai were an ancient and powerful civilization that flourished circa 100,000 BC, when they ruled over the area of space now known as the Taurus Reach. The Shedai were not confined to a single body, and were able to traverse the space in between worlds instantaneously by means of a technology known as "the Conduit." The Shedai apparently shared a master/slave relationship with the prehistoric ancestors of the Tholian species, who they called "kollotuul." The two races had certain similarities in their genetic structures, allowing the Shedai direct mind-control over the lower species. At some point in the distant past, most of the Shedai went into a state of hibernation, to await a new era where they could rule anew.

Shelly-class starship (UFP): This carrier class warship was designed by Starfleet from the ground up to carry large numbers of attack fighters. Design and construction of this class of starship began almost 2 years before the outbreak of the Resolute War. The Shellys' were a sub-class of the Currys' but with one significant change: Shelly-class starships could be constructed in half the time of a Curry by using transporter construction techniques. The class performed well in combat and by 2075 there were over 200 in operation within Federation space.

Sherman's Planet: this strategically placed world is a inhabited planet located in the Beta Quadrant, between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets. The planet is located in the Donatu Sector. This region of space, in which Sherman's Planet was located, was first mapped by astronomer John Burke in 2067. Before a Federation colony could be founded on this planet, there was a general dispute over it but the Federation established a colony anyway. The Klingons noted that although the planet was Class M, the native foodstuffs was unpalatable to most humanoids and its soil conditions made it very difficult for non-native crops to grow. The Klingons believed that the Federation intended to use Sherman's Planet as a jumping off point for an invasion in Klingon space, and made numerous attempts to destabilize the colony through sabotage, raids, and in the opening stages of the General War, invasion. Following this Federation-Klingon War in 2267 AD, and per terms of the Organian Peace Treaty, ownership of Sherman's Planet could be assumed by the side that could most effectively develop it. The Federation's intentions for Sherman's Planet were to use it to cultivate quadrotriticale, a grain well adapted to the planet's climate. After the quadrotriticale was poisoned on Deep Space Station K-7, Starfleet diverted a freighter loaded with this grain to Sherman's Planet. However, the grain was delivered a few weeks later than anticipated but the Federation eventually succeeded in best developing the planet. However, by 2269 AD the planet was struck by a wide-spread famine. On stardate 5392 the USS Enterprise (under Captain James T. Kirk) was assigned to escort two robot ships hauling an improved grain, quintotriticale, to the planet to alleviate the plight. The Klingon name for Sherman's Planet is Homog Three. In the late 24th century there were 98 million Humans and 116 million Klingons living on the planet. Sherman's Planet was named for Holly Sherman, a noted UFP explorer and it has six small moons called First, Second, Show, Last, Speed and Tiny One. In 2378, Sherman's Planet was listed as a Federation member. The primary star is a G-class.

Silverblue (planet): a low-population world colonized by humans from Adriatic Prime. It joined the United Federation of Planets later with all its sister worlds. The planet is located in the Canopus Sector of the Federation Annex Zone.

Simosium (metal): a critical ore used for forming Federation transporter armor, it can be found on only a few worlds within UFP space.

Skorr: The Skorr are an ancient avian race that thoroughly revel in hand-to-hand combat and bloodlust, and they have existed as a technologically advanced species for over 100,000 years. Their reproduction is tied to aggression, causing disastrous overpopulation problems for their homeworld and forcing them to colonize the galaxy. The Skorr have gone to war, and defeated, a dozen races until they ran into the United Federation of Planets in 2235 AD. Diplomacy prevailed during first contact between the two parties and a joint colony on Aurelia was set up in Federation space ten years later. The Skorr later went on to join the UFP in 2445 AD, after fighting gloriously on the side of the Allies during the Dominion War.

Solanae Dyson Sphere: The Solanae Dyson Sphere is a massive Dyson sphere commissioned by the Iconian Empire and built by the Solanae thousands of years ago. In the early 25th century, various galactic powers competed for the control of the Solanae Dyson Sphere. This immense object was constructed before the fall of the Iconian Empire some 200,000 years ago. Its builders were the Solanae, a servitor race of the Iconians. The Solanae sphere was centered around a brown dwarf and had a radius of approximately 1 astronomical units and its primary was known as Delta Solanae. The interior of the Solanae Dyson Sphere offers a surface area of approximately 550 million times the surface of the class-M planet Earth. Originally, the star was of a different type but it was transformed into a brown dwarf due to a large-scale industrial accident, which swamped the Dyson sphere with deadly tetryon radiation, forcing the inhabitants to abandon it. In 2409 AD, the Solanae Dyson Sphere was first discovered by the Federation MIDAS Array when it found a 2 AU-wide area devoid of readings 30,000 light-years from Sol in the Delta Quadrant, close to the border of the Beta Quadrant. Starfleet dispatched the USS Callisto to investigate the anomaly. Soon after, the Federation found a ship-sized gateway in the Jouret System. After investigating, the UFP realized that they were unable to control the vast Dyson structure on its own and turned to their allies, the Klingon Empire, to help develop the Dyson sphere and perform a sweep and destroy mission of the dangerous Omega particles detected by the USS Enterprise-F. However, these allies were waylaid by the alien Voth, who claimed the Dyson sphere for their own and sought to weaponize the Omega particles. To combat the Voth threat, the multinational Dyson Sphere Joint Command was put in charge of the Solanae sphere, under the aegis of the Federation. One of the sphere's spires was chosen to serve as command center, and renamed Dyson Joint Command. The Federation-Klingon alliance fought the Voth on the inside of the Dyson sphere until the Voth forces were later obliterated by the lethal Undine race

Sortal (Admiral): a Vulcan and Federation Fleet Admiral, he led a successful military campaign during the Resolute War from within the Federation Annex Zone, deep into Romulan space. He survived the war and won over a dozen Starfleet battlefield medals.

Sovereign-class (UFP): First constructed in 2368 AD with a initial order of 12 vessels, the Sovereign-class was a enormous change in starship design for Starfleet Command. This class of ships' military firepower is so great that it could easily be classified as a battleship. However, its initial defense designs were clearly lacking since the vessel had no ablative armor and no regenerative shields, both of which were available technologies at the time. It also lacked a saucer separation ability, making it nearly impossible for the majority of the crew to quickly flee the ship if it was damaged. However, the Mark II version of the Sovereign doubled its firepower when it came to torpedoes: one quantum and one photon launcher forward and 3 photon launchers aft, versus 1 quantum and 3 photon launchers forward and six aft photon launchers for the Mark II. The design served well on the battlefield, making a significant contribution during the Dominion War and Starfleets' various conflicts after that. More than 42 vessels in this class were built.

Spacedock (UFP): Located in Earth orbit, this immense space station is a key part of Earths' space defenses as well as a massive repair facility for Starfleet Command. During the Whale crisis Spacedock lost all power and was unable to help in the protection of Earth. Newly built starships constructed at L5 and the Moon are often fitted out at Spacedock.

Spokane-class Starship (UFP): the Spokane-class starship was a highly modified starship built by the United Federation of Planets for its Starfleet. After the stunning raid by the Romulan Navy against the UFP Depot at Gemini Superior, more than two dozen vessels remained in orbit; damaged but repairable. The surviving senior Starfleet officer, a enterprising commodore named Jay-Alan Dark, used his emergency powers to reconstruct some of these ships into vessels with extensive firepower, and he did it in just six short weeks. The rebuilt Spokanes' included Type 12 phaser emitters and six photon torpedo launchers (3 forward facing and 3 aft), sixty-four fighter-bombers, and transporter mines, as well as heavy duty shields and brand-new ablative armor. The newly embarked warp-capable fighter wing gave this class of warship "strategic reach" that very few other Starfleet vessels had. Finally, these twelve starships went on to perform admirably during the Resolute War (and later Dominion War), with eight surviving vessels being turned over to Bajor as the core of a new defense fleet

SPY-EYE Sensor (UFP): a ship-mounted long-range sensor developed more than 20 years ago, the SPY-EYE system has high resolution of ships and planets more than 100 light years away; standard starship sensors extend a measly 30 light years. Only a half-dozen Starfleet vessels can mount this sensor, mainly Nebula and MacPherson class starships.

St. Joan (planet): One of the Adriatic Worlds, this planet was absorbed into the Federation in 2374 AD. A human colony world of Adriatic Prime.

Steamrunner-class starship (UFP): the Steamrunner-class starship was built by Starfleet as a pure warship.....has chain reaction puslar built into it after 2370 AD.

Subspace Minedropper: This deadly weapon was invented by scientists at the Daystrom Defense Institute after studying Starfleet Ensign Wesley Crushers' efforts in the area of "warp bubbles". A theoretical design, it was eventually turned into hardware and used versus the Borg when they attacked the Alpha Quadrant and assimilated the Penzatti Homeworld. The weapon fared poorly against the Borg, only momentarily trapping them in a continually shrinking subspace universe; they were able to escape. This weapon was later added to the dreadnought USS Zeus, which used it effectively against Romulan and later Dominion forces. It is now (in 2405 AD) currently aboard 30% of Starfleet military vessels.

Summerlands (UFP): a class-M world colonized by humans, it is known for its extensive croplands and fruitful orchards, and is located near the Romulan Neutral Zone. It was nearly wiped out during the Resolute War from a bioattack on the nearby Nisus Colony (see IDIC Epidemic).

Sunnybeach (planet): a human populated class-M world colonized from the planet Adriatic Prime, it is a waterworld noted for its spectacular beaches.

Taela Shanthi (Admiral): A Starfleet Fleet Admiral, she died early in the Resolute War, fighting against Romulan forces during the devastating raid on the Mikulak Homeworld.

Talos IV: The Talos Star Group is a small cluster of 12 stars located within UFP space. Two of these stars (classes G3V and K3V) form a close binary with a system of 11 planets orbiting their center of gravity. The fourth planet of the system is home to a dying humanoid species with great mental powers. At one time this civilization was warp capable, but it destroyed itself through warfare over 200,000 years ago. In 2254 AD a Federation heavy cruiser (responding to a falsified distress signal) discovered that the planets surviving inhabitants possess powerful mental abilities, could control humanoid minds with illusions, and were seeking slaves to help them rebuild their world. The Starfleet cruiser escaped and its captain recommended that the planet be placed under the strictest quarantine possible. That was done. Limited contacts with the Talosians occurred in subsequent decades, but formal relations were never established and the world remains off-limits to outsiders.

Talyn Nebula: a immense nebula located near the Adriatic Worlds, it was noted for being especially energetic (and dangerous to starships).

Task Force 12b (UFP): As Starfleet stood down from combat operations against the Dominion following the successful end of the war, only a half dozen starships were actually located near Earth. These ships (two Galaxy-class, one Nebula-class, one Prometheus-class, one Excelsior-class, and two Defiant-class ships) disappeared on a routine fleet exercise in 2380 AD. The Task Force somehow ended up near the star Deneb, over 3,000 light years away. They decided to stay in the region and form Starfleet/Deneb (and found the Second Federation). Years later the UFP rediscovered the Second Federation (in 2395 AD) and amalgamated it.

Task Group 117 (in 2368): MORE HERE SOON

Technofossil: When an alien society Transcended or was destroyed, it occasionally left behind bits of high technology that could be useful or even extremely dangerous. Much was lost when civilizations either fell into oblivion or eventually Transcended into Elder status, abandoning their worlds and departing towards the center of the galaxy. Their left-behind technology were called "technofossils" and specialized Starfleet teams were brought in to study the items whenever they were found.

Tellar (UFP): Located in the 61 Cygni star system, this planet is the homeworld of the Tellar species, one of the Founding Members of the Federation. It is located within 20 light years of Earth. Tellarites are a major economic force within the UFP and they have colonized more than 20 worlds within the UFP Treaty Zone. The population of the system is around 8 billion. MORE HERE SOON

Tellarites (race): Tellarites are a warp-capable porcine species from the planet Tellar Prime, located not far from the Sol System. In 2161, their homeworld became a founding member of the United Federation of Planets.

Terra (UFP planet): Capital of the United Federation of Planets and of Starfleet Command. A major UFP shipbuilding center, its population is over 10 billion people.

Thallonian Empire: The Thallonian Empire is known on Starfleet charts as Sector 221-G. This small alien empire is located in the space between Deep Space 5 and the Romulan Star Empire. The Empire is an extremely xenophobic society that does not allow unauthorized trespass: the penalty for traveling within Thallonian space without authorization is death. During the Resolute War the Thallonians grabbed more than a dozen Romulan colonies near their border, reinvigorating the Empire and preventing its imminent collapse.

Thallonians (race): The Thallonians are a humanoid species native to the planet Thallon located in the Beta Quadrant. For centuries, the Thallonians were the dominant species in the Thallonian Empire which controlled much of Sector 221-G. Recently, the Thallonian Empire overcame a serious political crisis in 2373, due in part from the actions of a rival species (the Danteri) who tried to engineer a coup on Thallon. The Thallonians went on to absorb part of the Romulan Star Empire after it collapsed.

T'Kon (race): This alien race had a massive empire that existed over 600,000 years ago. At the time their population was in the trillions, they were highly advanced technologically, and they ruled a significant portion of the galaxy (in and around Federation space). The Tkon had the ability to move entire stars, and used mobile planets as outposts for defense. They employed guardians known as "portals" to defend these outposts and to act as gatekeepers for those seeking entry to the Empire. Towards the end of their history they began the 'Great Endeavour', a plan to save their homeworld from its dying sun. Using their hyper-advanced technology, the Tkon intended to use an elaborate transporter array to teleport their old sun completely out of their solar system and simultaneously replace it with a new, fresh one before the sun was expected to go supernova. Their efforts failed, the star exploded, ending their great interstellar empire.

Todd Roy (Senior Chief): a Starfleet engineer, Todd Roy was infamous for using two mothballed starships to ram into a major Romulan military base during the Resolute War, killing over 200 million Romulan civilians and military personnel. The death of his sister and her children during the Mikulak Massacre was cited by his defenders for his actions. As punishment, he lived the rest of his life at a Federation mental health colony until he died in 2444 AD.

Tothpal (race): A bipedal humanoid species that was conquered by the Romulans generations ago, their homeworld has become a UFP Protectorate now that the Resolute War has ended. The Toth are an extremely tall race, the tallest in known space.

T'Pel: This was the identity of a Romulan spy posing as a female Vulcan ambassador during the late 24th century. In 2366 AD, the Romulan Empire requested T'Pel as an intermediary in peace negotiations between the Romulans and the United Federation of Planets. She was transferred from USS Zhukov to the USS Enterprise-D on their way to the Romulan Neutral Zone. During her stay on the Enterprise she attempted to steal additional information about the ships defenses. Later, the ambassador apparently died during transport from the Enterprise to the Romulan warbird Devoras. Finding out that the transporter accident was staged, the Starfleet crew assumed that T'Pel was actually alive and being held hostage by the Romulans. It was later discovered that T'Pel was in fact Sub-Commander Selok, a Romulan agent assigned to infiltrate the Federation diplomatic corps - the peace overtures and transporter malfunction carefully planned in order to facilitate her extraction, allowing the Romulans to steal much information from the UFP and Starfleet. This crisis deeply soured relations between the Federation and the Empire, causing immense distrust and anger and eventually leading to a all-out war just a year later.

Traltha (planet): located near the giant star Deneb, this planet joined the Second Federation in 2388 and later joined the original Federation, becoming a permanent member of that organization. Traltha is a large class-M world that is inhabited by a friendly human-sized caterpillar race.

Transwarp Speed (Excelsior class): Technology enabling the ship to drop into an alternate dimension where time flowed at a different rate. Effectively 2x as fast at each Warp number.

Trans-Warp Speed (Borg): Transwarp is the term for the form of warp travel which exceeds the maximum established speeds of standard warp drive technology. The Borg's method creates conduits which act as shortcuts across space, while simultaneously allowing vessels to accelerate to otherwise impossible speeds, approximately twenty times the velocity of standard Federation warp travel.

Tranth Colony (UFP): A Federation colony located near Romulan space, all of the inhabitants were wiped out by a virulent plague in 2371. This "IDIC Epidemic" caused severe stress within the Federation as it spread. Eventually a cure was discovered but the Romulans were eventually blamed for the entire incident.

Triangle, the: Historically, the Triangle Region has historically been a stronghold of the Orion Syndicate, a loose collective of pirates, racketeers and smugglers, dating back at least to the 20th century. During a period of Klingon expansion in the 21st century, the Empire laid a claim to this region of space. However, given the decentralized nature of the Orion Syndicate and other parties in the region, the Klingon Defense Force was unsuccessful in suppressing dissent and, when internal struggle overtook the Empire in the late 2140's, any claims they had to systems beyond Khitomer, Yacae, Kah'las and Narendra were abandoned. Their interest in the region returned towards the end of the 22nd century, but as tensions heated up with the Federation, their efforts never met with enough support to successfully tame the region. In the mid 23rd century, the Romulan Star Empire, previously in seclusion, suddenly became more aggressive in its expansion. The Romulan Star Navy violated the Neutral Zone to attack Federation outposts, staged incursions into Klingon Space, and attempted to lay claim to this volatile region of space. However, they were forced to pull back their assets from the Klingon border after a harrowing defeat by the Klingons at the Battle of Klach D'Kel Brakt, abandoning claims to the Triangle. A series of treaties, first the Khitomer Accords of 2293 and then the Treaty of Algeron in 2311, defined borders between the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Star Empire and the Klingon Empire. An outgrowth of this was the formalization of the Triangle as one that was not aligned with any of the three powers at the summit.

Tri-Cobalt Device: A devastating missile weapon invented by Starfleet as a result of the UFP-Cardassian War, its warhead is one of the largest in the Federations' inventory and is rarely deployed on starships except in times of war.

Trill (planet and race): The Trill (or Trills) refers to two species from the planet Trill; one is humanoid and distinguished by a pattern of spots from the top of their head to their toes, and the other is a slug-like organism called a symbiont. The slugs would often "join" with a humanoid host so they could experience the universe at large. The symbionts live for almost 1000 years while their humanoid hosts live a normal lifespan of less than 150 years. The Trill are a very technologically advanced species and the Trill Science Ministry is a leading center of learning and experimentation in the Federation. Trill officially became a member of the United Federation of Planets in 2360 AD and later came under attack several times during the Dominion War (2374-2376) but the planet was never occupied. In 2402 AD, Trill scientists helped develop a solar suppression system for the overactive star surrounding the Jenolan Dyson Sphere, eventually opening up the immense object to colonization by the Federation.

Tri-System (2 UFP planet): Located near the giant star Deneb in the Second Federation Zone, three worlds located in this lifeless system were located exactly within the "goldilocks zone" surrounding this star. Using the ancient Planet-Maker artifact, the Second Federation invested a great deal of time, resources, and effort to convert all three planets into Earth-like worlds, a process that took just 50 years. Renamed the Tri-System, they became a major colonization zone for the old UFP, with humans, Bynars and Bajorans flocking to these planets. It was heavily populated by 2450 AD.

Tylissos (2 UFP): This beautiful world is nearly three times the size of Earth, but has the same level of gravity since it has very little metals at its core. Founded by Second Federation crew who later resigned from Starfleet/Deneb, it became the location of significant Benzar, Betazed, and Trill populations once ties with the UFP were renewed. This planet is located over 80 light years from Akwaterra and also has an extensive planetary defense grid.

Tyrellia Prime (planet): This planet is the homeworld for a warp-capable minor human race, the Tyrellians. They joined the Federation more than 20 years ago and is the site of a major UFP shipyard and staging base for Starfleet forces. The planet came under attack twice by Romulan forces during the Resolute War.

Tyrellia Sector (UFP): A region of space located mostly in the Federation Annex Zone, Starfleet Command used this area to stage attacks against the Romulan Star Empire during the Resolute War. The homeworld of a minor human race (the Tyrellians) is situated in this area as well.

Uelterra (2 UFP): This planet is a mirror-world like Earth, Akwaterra, Miri's World, and Magna Roma. However, it is only partly finished; its missing all higher lifeforms and only a hardy type of moss keeps the continents from eroding away. Eventually Starfleet/Deneb finished the terraforming process by moving the Planet-Maker into orbit of this world, a process that took just a few years. Uelterra would eventually become a major UFP colony world by 2501 AD.

UFP: The United Federation of Planets (abbreviated as UFP and commonly referred to as the Federation) is a interstellar union of planetary governments that agree to exist semi-autonomously under a single central government based on the principles of universal liberty, rights, and equality, and to share their knowledge and resources in peaceful cooperation, scientific development, space exploration, and mutual defense. One of the most powerful interstellar states in known space, it encompassed eight thousand light years. The total number of formal member worlds is over one hundred and fifty. Federation culture, values, and technology has vast influence across space and time, as well as other dimensions and subspace domains. Encountering numerous clashing ideologies, some conflicts escalated into significant resistance, such as armed conflict, and even temporal attacks intended to prevent key historical events from occurring. The Federation was founded in San Francisco, Earth in 2161, with its Founding Members being the Centaurians, Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites. The UFP has had military conflicts with several of its neighbors, most notably the Romulans, Klingons, and Cardassians, however the Federations' expansion changed in 2365 when they encountered its single worst threat, in the cybernetic pseudo-race known as the Borg. One of the most powerful and destructive forces in the entire galaxy, the Borg has invaded the Federation twice within a decade. They are unlike anything the Federation has ever encountered, and were only foiled by chance and resourcefulness. The Federation was thus schooled in the fact that, in the vast, unexplored reaches of the galaxy beyond what they knew, there were threats that they could not even imagine.

Ultra-Warp Speed (Galaxy class): A shifting pattern of warp fields that made greater velocity capable and also redefined Warp numbers as an exponential curve with 1 being speed of light and 10 being infinite.

USS Ahwahee (NCC-73620): This starship was built for Starfleet by the United Federation of Planets, a Cheyenne-class light cruiser first built in 2350 AD. The name originated from a Native American word for the Yosemite Valley. The USS Ahwahnee, along with 39 other starships, fought the Borg at the Battle of Wolf 359 on Stardate 44002 (2367 AD). The heavily damaged ship was discovered by the USS Enterprise-D after the battle. After being salvaged in early 2368 the Ahwahnee joined Captain Picards' fleet that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. The ship was one of twenty-three assembled for the fleet and was one of the seventeen chosen for the tachyon network. Identified by its name and registry number, the ship's position in the network was monitored from the Enterprise-D. When the network was disrupted by a high-energy burst released by the Romulans, the net was no longer effective in a radius of ten million kilometers around the USS Sutherland. Subsequently, Picard ordered the fleet to proceed to Gamma Eridon at maximum warp, where the fleet would attempt to reestablish the net before the Romulans got there. This starship was named for a Native American tribe. The USS Ahwahnee also saw action in conflicts with the Klingon Empire, Cardassian Union and Breen Confederacy.

USS Lynx (NCC-4600): The USS Lynx is a Monoceros-class starship that was heavily modified for the express purpose of exploring the viability of time travel for research purposes. After several serious temporal incidents, Starfleet determined that having a functional temporal capable ship was required. For security purposes, the ship is manned at all times, even when birthed in drydock under heavy security. The ship operates under strict temporal edicts that prevent the crew from influencing the timeline. The USS Lynx has been outfitted with a primary warp engine, for temporal displacement, and a secondary warp drive as an emergency backup. The USS Lynx achieves temporal displacement via the precise application of a “cold start” formulation of the primary warp core. Both engines are capable of temporal displacement, but the secondary warp drive does not possess the various safety interlocks found in the primary drive. The ship is lightly armed, six phasers in three banks of two, and two forward-firing photon torpedoes tube. These weapons are to be used for the defense of the vessel and to prevent the technology from falling into non-Federation hands. Finally, the ship has been outfitted with a cloaking device in order to avoid detection while observing past cultures. This classified vessel was also used at the end of the Dominion War for a secret mission, apparently which failed.

USS Zeus (NCC-4466): this vessel was the first in class of Starfleets' newest Olympus-class dreadnoughts, and it finished construction on Stardate 49998, barely a year after after the Battle of Wolf 359. Initially this starship was laid down as a Galaxy-class starship but assembly was halted in the six month after the Massacre in the Wolf System. Military analysts within Starfleet pointed out that a poorly armed large starship with civilians on board was not needed for potential future conflicts. Instead, a extensive array of offensive and defensive systems was designed into the USS Zeus, including a military-grade shield system rated at over 300% standard, and twenty-two rapid fire photon torpedo launchers. Once finished, the command of the USS Zeus was given to Captain Ryan Farris and the starship performed remarkably well on the battlefield, especially in combat against Dominion forces in the Alpha Quadrant.

Utopia Planitia (Mars): is a key Starfleet vessel construction and design facility for the United Federation of Planets. The facility includes several large drafting rooms for starship design and planetary facilities on the surface of Mars, as well as a number of drydocks and space stations in orbit. The orbital part of the yards is positioned in synchronous orbit 16,625 kilometers above the Utopia Planitia region on Mars in the Sol System.

Vedala (race): An ancient race of cat-like creatures, the Vedala are a mysterious race that the United Federation of Planets knows little about. The Vedala are extremely powerful, and one of the oldest star faring races known. In fact, the ancient Tkon Empire makes reference to this race and their enigmatic planetoid ships. The Vedalans disappeared around the same time as the Chodak, and some Federation philosophers have speculated that there was a conflict between the two races, a conflict which wiped out both species., but no one knows for sure.

Vedalan Intervention: A all-out war between the United Federation of Planets and the Skorr Empire was narrowly averted on Stardate 2269.4 when a ancient race of aliens (the Vedala) asked for a intervention by UFP officials and representatives from nearby races that were in danger by a Skorr jihad. A sacred object that was holy to the Skorr (the Soul of Alar) had been stolen and the entire race would go mad with anger if the theft was discovered. Alar had brought peace to the Skorr people like Surak had on Vulcan, a long-term peace that kept the violent desires of the Skorr in check. As a committed pacifist, Alar promoted peace and non-violence against other Skorr as well as other alien races. He also encouraged racial restraint in reproduction, which had always been a driving force for savagery among this flying species. With the help of Captain Kirk, Spock, and others the crisis was averted.

Voga System (UFP): this star system is located at the "entrance" to the Second Federation Arm and has three habitable worlds. Once colonization began in the Deneb Arm, the Voga System was chosen by the Federation Council as the primary jump-off point towards Deneb. It is now a primary colonization support system and major Starfleet base.

Voltanis Sector (Romulan): A distant sector within the Romulan Empire, it fell to Alliance forces during the Resolute War and is now primarily occupied by Klingon forces and their Romulan slaves.

Vulcan (UFP): Alien homeworld and system wide population of 14.9 billion, Vulcan is a Founding Member of the Federation with excellent ship facilities. The planet Vulcan (population 2 billion) and her twin planet, T'Khut, revolve around each other. It is a triple star system, and Vulcan circles 40 Eridani A. There are three planets in the system (Vulcan-T'Khut are 3rd) and two asteroid belts.

Vulcan/Romulan Reunification Attempt: In 2366 AD the sudden disappearance of Ambassador Spock of Vulcan (a Federation diplomat for decades) raised alarm within Starfleet Command. He was later discovered on Romulus and at first no one knew why. Hoping for some answers, Starfleet sent Captain Jean-Luc Picard to see Spock’s father on Vulcan. Sarek (who was dying) pointed Picard in the direction of Pardek, a Romulan senator that Spock had known for years. Later, Captain Picard and the android Commander Data (masquerading as Romulans) headed to Romulus aboard a cloaked Klingon ship. Eventually they found Ambassador Spock, who told Captain Picard he was on Romulus to try to reunify the Vulcan and Romulan peoples, as they share a common ancestry but Picard was very skeptical. However, a Romulan counter-plot was at play with Commander Sela heading up the mission: sending an alleged peace delegation to Vulcan that really was a deadly invasion force with thousands of armed troops. Picard, Data and Spock foiled the invasion plan and at the last moment a Romulan warbird destroyed the invading ships carrying the invasion force. Despite the setback, Spock stayed on Romulus to continue his reunification efforts but the attempted attack on one of the Founding Members of the Federation has had repercussions within the UFP government or years afterwards.

Vulcans (race): The Vulcans are a warp-capable humanoid species from the planet Vulcan. They are widely renowned for their strict adherence to logic and reason as well as their remarkable stoicism. In 2161, their homeworld became a founding member of the United Federation of Planets. The Vulcans were once an extremely violent and emotional people (even by Earth standards) who waged almost constant warfare on one another. Paranoia and homicidal rage were common. They believed in a variety of gods, such as war, peace, and death. As their level of technology improved, the Vulcans eventually reached a point where their violent nature threatened the extinction of their own species.

Surak, Father of Vulcan Logic
In an effort to avoid this fate, a Vulcan named Surak developed a new philosophy, thereby igniting the Time of Awakening. Surak maintained that the root cause of all the problems on Vulcan lay in the uncontrolled outpouring of the people's emotions. His followers swore to live their lives by an ethical system devised by Surak and based purely on logical principles. Emotions were to be controlled and repressed. Although this new philosophy spread rapidly across Vulcan, a minority, many of whom were known as "those who march beneath the raptor's wings", rejected Surak's ideals. A destructive war began, including the use of atomic bombs, and among the victims was Surak himself. Eventually, however, those who opposed logic left Vulcan and founded colonies elsewhere – most notably on the planet Romulus, where they founded what eventually became the Romulan Star Empire. At some point in history, the Romulans and the Vulcans engaged in a hundred-year-long war against one another. The war was instigated by the actions of a member of the Q Continuum (Quinn). The Vulcans conducted a series of survey missions to the Sol system, as early as 1957. By the 21st and 22nd centuries, the Vulcans had also made contact with the Cardassians, Trill, Tholians, Klingons, and scores of other races. By the 24th century, Vulcan remained one of the principal Federation members, and is deeply involved at all levels of that society.

Warlord, the: a madman and military dictator of the planet Han Kao in the Dubhe System (a star system deep within Federation space). He caused the Crisis of 2367 AD, resulting in the deaths of more than 200,000 Federation citizens. He perished when his Romulan allies decided to "clean up" their mess; backing the Warlord against his enemies.

Warp Speed (Constitution class): Warp number cubed was the velocity relative to speed of light, with the Enterprise having a max normal of Warp 12 listed and emergency max of Warp 14.

Warp Torpedoes: Invented by the near-insane leader of Han Kao (a planet allied with the Federation), these missile weapons can move at warp speed and hit targets several light years away. They were rumored to be developed with Romulan assistance. Since their capture in the Dubhe System, they have been reverse engineered and are now used by Starfleet military vessels in combat.

Warrantors of Peace: MORE HERE SOON

Whil (UFP planet): A Federation colony world located at the entrance to the Deneb Arm, it is the central supply lane for the journey down the Arm.

Willall (race): A servitor race within the Klingon Empire.

Withiki (race): A humanoid slave race within the Klingon Empire, they are notable for having wings.

Wotan (2 UFP): This is a non-habitable mining planet with deep mineral reserves that was annexed by the Second Federation early when it was forming. Located just 25 light years from Akwaterra, it was the only sources for several types of vital crystals, including dilithium. Since its atmosphere and land is similar to the Vulcan Homeworld, this planet became a significant Vulcan colony as well.

Yaty (UFP planet): A Federation colony world located at the entrance to the Deneb Arm. Inhabitants are mostly Betazoid and Human. Yaty is a jumbo-sized world, 3 times larger than Earth but with the same gravity as humanity's homeworld due to its small potassium core. This planet supports UFP colonization up and down the Deneb Arm.

Yelchin-class starship (UFP): Built during the Resolute War by Starfleet, eight were initially fielded in the first 6 months of the war and when it ended, over 50 had been constructed and deployed across the vast space of the Federation. Overall, the Yelchin design was extremely efficient: it was low maintenance and multi-mission capable, and was an extremely effective class of starship. Fabricated primarily at the Antares Shipyards, they were equipped with eight Type 7 phasers in the saucer alone, two forward mounted torpedo launchers, and two deadly aft-facing phaser cannons. A single light cruiser of this class was almost tough enough to take on most Romulan vessels by itself. Its high warp speed, an experimental dual-array shield generator system, and an extensive sensor array made it an excellent scout vessel, courier ship, convoy escort, and fleet support ship.

Yennara (planet): a new Federation colony located near the giant star Deneb. The planet became a popular colonization location after 2400 AD.

Yorgash-class heavy scout: first constructed in 2372 AD by the House of Gorath, this heavily armored scout ship was badly needed by the Klingon Fleet as it continued to advance deep into Romulan space. Previous classes of scout ships (mainly birds of prey) had proved too weak on the battlefield; from its firepower to the armor plating, lighter scout ships were often outgunned by enemy warships and losses in those classes reached over 70% by the middle of the war. When first built, the Yorgash-class had its detractors, including Chancellor Gowron but General Mar'tok backed the designed and more than 100 were laid down during the Resolute War. The armor protection proved extremely effective and the scouts' three-dimensional weaponry often played a crucial role in its survival on the battlefield. It was also the smallest warship to mount the advanced energy torpedo launcher, a weapon system developed by the Klingon Empire just a decade ago. After the war the entire class' performance was subject to an extensive military evaluation, and overall this Klingon vessel was judged a resounding success.

Yuller (UFP): a small mixed Federation colony near the Romulan border that became infected with the IDIC Epidemic. The entire colony of 80,000 people perished as a result.

Zakdorn (race): The Zakdorn are an alien race that met humans around 2100 AD, and later became Federation members in the year 2344. Known for their pretentious and fussy demeanor, they are nevertheless valued allies, contributing their famed tactical expertise to the defense of the Federation. Historically, other races have been so fearful of the Zakdorn reputation for tactical supremacy that no-one has dared attack them. As a people, the Zakdorn were generally replete with self-assuredness and overconfidence.
